The Boundary Women’s Coalition is a non-profit organization providing services throughout the Boundary area to women and children affected by violence and abuse. The Boundary Women’s Second Stage program is seeking applications for the position of Second Stage Coordinator.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Second Stage Coordinator provides a range of supportive services, including security, advocacy, information, education, crisis intervention, referrals, and rent collection, to clients, crisis line callers, move-ins and move-outs. The coordinator is responsible for overseeing the entire program, including supervising support staff. The coordinator directly reports to the Executive Director.
KEY DUTIES:
- Assess resident needs and support her with setting goals and achieving them.
- Supports residents with move-in and move-out, conducting unit inspections.
- Connects residents to resources and advocates for them as needed to access services.
- Creates and facilitates workshops for residents and their children, supporting the creation of a supportive community within Second Stage.
- Maintains client files, records relevant statistical information for the program, and creates reports as required.
- Ensures repairs and maintenance needs are communicated promptly to the ED and or the Manager of Raven Place
- Ensures residents are aware of and abide by program guidelines, and brings any issue of concern to the attention of the resident and, if required, the attention of the ED.
- Works collaboratively with other staff to provide comprehensive support services to clients.
- Researches and books external facilitators for workshops based on areas of need and interest of clients.
- Manages crisis calls appropriately.
- Maintains confidentiality of client information.
- Maintains a safe working and living environment.
- May be required to do some cleaning and shopping to support operational needs.
- May be required to drive clients from time to time, as needed.
- Provide clear and consistent direction and support to the Second Stage Support Staff.
- Available to be on call for Second Stage client emergencies
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Supervisory experience, a minimum of 1 year (preferred)
- Degree in a related field or a combination of education, relevant experience and training in the social service field- Minimum three years of experience
- Experience in providing support to women and children
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle crisis situations
- A strong understanding of the issues of violence against women and a feminist analysis
- The ability to demonstrate assertiveness along with both professional and personal boundaries
- Efficient time, organizational and stress-management skills.
- Ability to work as a team and independently
- Proficient computer skills
- Knowledge of community resources and harm reduction model an asset
- Ability to pass a criminal record check
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a well-maintained vehicle to transport clients
- First Aid is required; the employer will cover the cost of training in the absence of a valid First Aid certificate
