Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Halifax, NS for a Senior Accountant. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant looking to expand their responsibilities within a growing organization and develop toward future leadership opportunities.
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for a growing real estate portfolio. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening internal controls, improving processes, and providing financial insights that support business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Analyze financial results and variances, providing insights and recommendations
- Prepare internal and external financial reports.
- Lead the preparation and maintenance of the general ledger, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records
- Coordinate and execute month-end and year-end close activities.
- Support the efficiency and accuracy of the accounts payable and receivable functions.
- Support the timely processing of billing, collections, and vendor payments
- Prepare and review bank reconciliations and support cash flow monitoring
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
- Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests
- Support routine tax filings
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in accounting processes
- Collaborate with operations and leadership teams to provide financial insights
- Support property managers or department leaders with budget tracking and cost analysis
- Act as a key point of contact for accounting-related questions
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience preparing financial statements and completing month-end close
- Proficiency in ERP / Accounting software
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of tax compliance, financial regulations, and audit processes
- Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to present financial data clearly
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation considered an asset)
- Previous experience in property management or real estate accounting is an asset
