Mornelle IDA Drug Mart is a community-focused, independently owned pharmacy dedicated to providing personalized care and service to our patients. We are looking for a friendly, organized, and detail-oriented Pharmacy Assistant to join our team. Must have a background in pharmacy.
Job Summary
The Pharmacy Assistant supports the pharmacist and pharmacy team in the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, including customer service, prescription processing, inventory management, and administrative tasks. This role requires accuracy, discretion, and a genuine commitment to patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist customers at the counter and over the phone in a courteous and professional manner
- Receive prescriptions from patients and enter/process them into the pharmacy management system
- Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification (counting, labeling, packaging medications)
- Manage prescription pick-up and drop-off, including verifying patient information
- Process payments, insurance claims, and third-party billing
- Answer routine, non-clinical questions from patients and refer clinical questions to the pharmacist
- Maintain accurate patient records and confidentiality in accordance with privacy regulations
- Order, receive, and stock pharmaceutical and retail inventory
- Monitor stock levels and expiry dates; rotate stock as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment
- Assist with front-store retail sales and merchandising, if applicable
- Support administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and communicating with physicians' offices
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Fluent in Tamil & English
- Pharmacy Assistant/Technician certification or diploma preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Previous experience in a pharmacy or retail/customer service setting is an asset
- Familiarity with pharmacy software systems such as fillware
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Basic math and computer skills
- Understanding of patient confidentiality requirements
