Commisso Estate Winery is looking to fill the position of Assistant Kitchen Manager immediately. We are seeking a hardworking, reliable, and experienced kitchen professional who is ready to take on a leadership role in a busy winery restaurant environment.
This is a full-time salaried position reporting directly to the Winery Manager. The successful candidate will help lead daily kitchen operations, support menu development, maintain high food quality standards, and assist with restaurant service, private events, holidays, and special winery experiences.
The Assistant Kitchen Manager must be available to work nights and closing shifts from Thursday through Sunday, as well as weekends, holidays, and scheduled events.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Kitchen Manager will be responsible for supporting the overall success of the kitchen, including:
- Assisting with the daily operation of the winery restaurant kitchen
- Leading kitchen staff during service, prep, closing shifts, events, and busy periods
- Maintaining high standards for food quality, presentation, consistency, cleanliness, and speed of service
- Supporting the creation, design, and maintenance of the regular restaurant menu
- Assisting with special event menus, seasonal features, private functions, and winery experiences
- Working closely with the Winery Manager and hospitality team to ensure smooth restaurant and event service
- Managing kitchen prep lists, par levels, station setup, and closing duties
- Ensuring all food is prepared safely, efficiently, and to Commisso Estate Winery standards
- Helping with ordering, inventory control, food cost awareness, waste reduction, and proper product rotation
- Ensuring all kitchen areas, equipment, fridges, freezers, and storage spaces are clean, organized, and properly maintained
- Training, coaching, and supporting kitchen team members
- Helping create a positive, respectful, and team-focused kitchen environment
- Ensuring all health, safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures are followed
- Stepping into a leadership role when required and setting the example for the kitchen team
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 1 year of experience leading or supervising a kitchen, or 3–5 years of experience working in a kitchen
- Valid Food Handler Certification
- Valid Smart Serve Certification, or willingness to obtain it
- Strong cooking, prep, organization, and line execution skills
- Experience working in a restaurant, winery restaurant, banquet, event, or hospitality kitchen environment
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and support a team
- Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic
- Ability to work well as part of a larger hospitality team
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Ability to stay calm, organized, and focused in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events
- A positive attitude and pride in producing quality food and guest experiences
