About Us:
St. Mark’s Food Bank operates out of St. Mark’s Church at the corner of Russell and Gottingen Streets. It is a member of Feed Nova Scotia and Food Banks Canada. St. Mark’s Anglican Church has been running its food bank operation for over 50 years, and it is a key component of the Parish’s mission and identity.
The Role:
We are looking for a Director who will help us fulfill our outreach mission by managing Food Bank operations, The successful candidate will be expected to spend a minimum of two full mornings each week on site in Food Bank operations (normally Mondays & Tuesdays) to accept deliveries from Feed Nova Scotia and to serve clients. Other duties are performed within the remaining hours per week. This role serves as the primary point of contact for clients and donors and must represent St. Mark’s Food Bank in a positive and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage client intake, food distribution, and inventory management
- Supervise staff and volunteers, including selection, orientation & training and scheduling shifts
- Ensure all food handling adheres to food safety and local health department regulations.
- Ensure accurate record keeping, prepare reports as required and, working with Church staff, prepare grant applications from time to time.
- Handle all external contacts with Feed Nova Scotia, Food Banks Canada and other agencies.
Qualifications Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Work Experience:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Demonstrate empathy and confidentially in dealing with clients as well as tact and diplomacy when working with diverse populations.
- Strong sense of commitment. Regular, punctual attendance is required.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable using technology, including MS Word and Excel, and the ability to learn new job-specific tools
- Ability to understand and comply with applicable rules, regulations and policies
Assets:
- Knowledge of community-based food programs, food insecurity issues, and working with marginalized populations.
- Food safety handling knowledge and first aid training
- Clear driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to:
- Perform physical work (bending, lifting, standing)
- Obtain a clean Police Record Check
- Gain food handling certification, First Aid & CPR training (if not already held)
