About the Clients: We are seeking a compassionate and reliable MALE live-in caregiver for a senior couple living independently in a Mississauga condo near the golf course. The husband recently underwent knee replacement surgery and is in the recovery phase. He is currently immobile and requires assistance with transfers and moving about the home. He also has Parkinson's disease, which affects his memory and cognition. The wife is his primary caregiver but recently recovered from pneumonia and needs ongoing respite support. Both clients value their independence but recognize the need for consistent, around-the-clock assistance during this recovery period. The husband can be particular about his preferences and may initially be resistant to accepting help from someone new, so patience and a warm, engaging approach are essential.
Responsibilities: The primary focus of this live-in role is to support the husband's recovery and provide meaningful companionship while giving his wife much-needed relief from caregiving duties. Key responsibilities include assisting with transfers, repositioning, and mobility support given his current immobility, as well as encouraging and assisting with prescribed physiotherapy exercises, as the client is more likely to complete them with a professional present rather than family members. Companionship is a crucial component—engaging in conversation, playing card games to support cognitive function, and providing social interaction to combat the isolation of being homebound. Light meal preparation may be requested, and the caregiver should be comfortable with basic cooking tasks. Assistance with personal care tasks such as dressing, grooming, toileting, and bathing is required, and the client requires a male caregiver for all personal care. The role also includes providing ongoing respite for the wife, allowing her time to attend church, run errands, or simply recharge.
What We're Looking For: We are seeking a male live-in caregiver who is patient, engaging, and experienced in working with clients who are immobile and have cognitive changes. The ideal candidate will have a warm, personable approach and the ability to build trust with someone who may initially be hesitant about accepting care. Experience with post-surgical recovery, Parkinson's disease, safe transfers, and fall prevention is highly valued. The caregiver should be comfortable encouraging exercise routines, facilitating cognitive activities like card games, and providing meaningful social engagement. Reliability is essential, as is the ability to adapt to the client's mood and preferences on any given day. Strong communication skills are important for coordinating with family members who live out of province. Cultural sensitivity is appreciated, as the wife has a Mexican background. The caregiver must have current PSW certification, up-to-date criminal background checks, and all required health and safety clearances.
Schedule: The family is seeking a live-in arrangement to provide consistent, around-the-clock support during the husband's recovery. Private accommodation will be provided in the couple's condo. Details regarding days off, break coverage, and the overall live-in rotation can be discussed with suitable candidates. The family is open to flexible arrangements around medical appointments and physiotherapy sessions, and the goal is to establish a consistent routine that supports the client's recovery while providing regular relief for his wife.
