CertainTeed has an exciting career opportunity for a Plant Controller.
This position supports the Ottawa, ON and Redcliff, AB manufacturing plants by providing operational and financial reporting, as well as in-depth analysis of plant performance and results. The role ensures compliance with company financial policies and procedures and maintains effective internal controls. It also proactively identifies opportunities to enhance performance and profitability while safeguarding company assets through adherence to established control processes.
This position can be based either at our headquarters in Mississauga, ON, or at our plant in Ottawa, ON.

Responsibilities:
30% Lead month-end close activities, including detailed analysis and timely reporting of financial results
- Oversee inventory verification and controls across raw materials, finished goods, and precious metals to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Prepare and post journal entries in coordination with the centralized Shared Services Accounting (SSC) team
- Perform in-depth analysis of financial performance and variances to support decision-making
- Analyse manufacturing variances and identify key drivers impacting plant performance
- Complete account reconciliations
- Produce and deliver comprehensive month-end reporting packages
- Support and present financial results during Plant Manager Financial Reviews
20% Coordinate and support the development of the annual operating budget and periodic forecasts
- Perform analytical review of budget assumptions, providing constructive challenge and insights
- Prepare and maintain product standard costing and year end revision and rollup
10% Ensure proper internal controls and compliance with Company policies and procedures
- Coordinate and support annual plant gap review, adapt to Internal (ICRF) control manual
- Support internal audit activities, coordinating plant responses and follow-up
40% Business Partnering & Operational Support
- Partner closely with Plant Management to support operational and financial decision-making
- Actively participate in plant leadership meetings, providing financial insights and recommendations
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support plant and operations management needs
- Identify operational issues and initiate analyses to reduce waste (labor, materials, and spending)
- Monitor, report, and validate cost reduction initiatives, ensuring accuracy and sustainability
- Support World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives and Cost Deployment activities, including the development and tracking of plant cost-saving project
Other duties:
- Oversee and reconcile annual physical inventory (Q4)
- Support capital expenditure appropriation request development and payback analysis
- Coordinate and support annual fixed asset desk review, triennial fixed asset audit
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, CPA, CMA or equivalent, complementary work experience
- Minimum 8 years of progressive cost accounting and analysis experience with a major manufacturing organization. A strong emphasis should be put on knowledge of management accounting, cost and inventory accounting, and IFRS.
- Strong analytical skills are required to quickly grasp issues impacting the plant’s financial results
- Strong systems aptitude to deliver effective reporting (paperless web-enabled environment), utilize business warehouse tools and MS Excel and PowerPoint for analysis and presentations – High level Excel skills preferred
- Excellent communication and presentation skills are required
- Capable of leading a process team and able to define clear vision, goals, and service standards
- Ability to manage projects, work independently, and communicate effectively to all areas and levels of the location
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across plant and functional organizations.
- Demonstrated client service orientation
- SAP experience highly preferred
- Experience with Power BI is considered an asset
- Confidence in project management, transition and knowledge transfer

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates, the base pay range for this position is $99 000 to $126 000 per year. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 13% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures.
