We’re on the lookout for a creative, confident, and community-minded Sous Chef to help lead our culinary team at the Coast Capri Hotel’s restaurant outlet: Vintners. If you love the buzz of a busy service, have a knack for crafting dishes that wow and want to work somewhere that encourages you to develop your team and yourself we’d love to hear from you! In this role you would lead efforts on restaurant menu design, daily specials, rotating cafe baked goods. A successful candidate will exhibit strong leadership skills with a well-rounded knowledge of safety regulations.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the evening brigade with calm, confidence, and a dash of flair
- Dream up dishes that celebrate the Okanagan’s bounty and reflect the vibe of our lounge—elevated, approachable, and delicious
- Mentor Cook 1 and Cook 2 team members and help build a kitchen culture that’s all about growth, respect, and great food
- Keep things clean, safe, and smooth behind the scenes adhering to current food safety standards and HACCP guidelines
- Assist in planning of purchases and food prep in accordance with production schedules, always ensuring correct stock levels, adequate supplies, savvy inventory turnover, minimal wastage. Inclusive of accurate reporting and administration
- Join forces with the Executive Chef to whip up dazzling menus, wow team ambassadors with tastings, and keep the kitchen buzzing with brilliance
- Stay current with emerging market trends relating to food production, presentation, and cooking methods. Commitment to enhancing our local offerings and building relationships with Okanagan suppliers
- Prioritize positivity, patients, and education. Ensure all team members are aware and up to date on company code of conduct policies and company expectations
- Ensure all equipment is in good working order and to report any repairs or maintenance to the appropriate department manager in a timely manner
- In the absence of the Executive Chef takes over responsibilities and duties to assure consistency in management and delivery
- Represent the company in a positive manner, prioritize your personal brand by attending networking events, trade shows, food exhibitions and other industry relevant initiatives
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications & Skill Requirements:
- At least 2 years in a kitchen leadership role (bonus points if it’s in a lively, multi-outlet setting)
- Education: Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent, higher education in the culinary field is an asset (we actively participate in the apprenticeship program and can support Red Seal Certification requirement)
- Food Safe Level 1 required. Food Safe Level 2 an asset
- A cool head and warm heart during the dinner rush
- Passion for local ingredients and modern culinary trends
- Strong leadership and communication chops
- Must have flexibility to work evenings and weekends, and additional hours when required during peak and seasonal business
