Western Engineered Containment (WEC) is seeking a Lead Technician to join our team in Leduc, Alberta.
This position is primarily field-based and is responsible for leading crews in the successful installation of spray polyurea systems and geomembrane liners for primary and secondary containment applications. Between field assignments, the Lead Technician will also support shop operations, equipment readiness, fabrication activities, and technician development.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations
- Lead and coordinate field crews to complete projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule
- Install spray polyurea and liner containment systems for industrial applications
- Install, deploy, and secure black geomembrane liners for primary and secondary containment systems
- Perform liner layout, panel alignment, and cutting to meet site-specific designs and specifications
- Conduct heat welding, extrusion welding, and/or solvent welding of liner seams to ensure integrity and leak prevention
- Inspect seams and completed installations for quality control, identifying and correcting deficiencies
- Prepare subgrades and surfaces to ensure proper liner placement and longevity
- Operate and maintain welding and testing equipment related to liner installation
- Troubleshoot field challenges such as uneven terrain, environmental factors, and fitment issues
- Ensure all liner installations meet industry standards, project specifications, and WEC quality expectations
- Support documentation of liner installation activities, including QA/QC reports and test results
- Operate and maintain mobile plural component spray equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment and support field problem solving
- Ensure work is completed to customer specifications and WEC quality standards
- Complete required project documentation including field tickets, JHAs, inventory records, and maintenance requests
- Communicate project progress, site concerns, and safety matters with Operations
Shop & Team Support
- Support fabrication and quality control activities during non-field periods
- Maintain equipment readiness and coordinate preventative maintenance
- Train and mentor technicians to support crew capability and consistency
- Assist with inventory control and shop organization
- Support continuous improvement and operational initiatives as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in spray-in liners, industrial coatings, geomembrane installation, spray foam, plural component systems, or related industrial construction applications preferred
- Hands-on experience with HDPE, LLDPE, or other geomembrane liner systems
- Knowledge of liner welding techniques and testing methods (air pressure testing, vacuum box, spark testing, etc.)
- Familiarity with containment systems in oil & gas, industrial, or environmental applications
- Previous experience leading crews and directing daily work activities
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities
- Mechanical aptitude with equipment troubleshooting experience preferred
- Strong attention to quality, safety, and documentation requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work
- Willing and able to travel to remote locations and stay away from home for periods averaging 2–7 days
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with acceptable Driver’s Abstract
- Ability to pass Drug and Alcohol Testing requirements
