In this dynamic, fast-paced environment, the R&D HVAC Tech is responsible for providing support for new product validation testing of gas appliances/fireplaces, production assembly verification, prototype builds. This position also works with the Engineering Development team to establish products thermal performance while maintaining safe operating temperatures.
Job Purpose:
Participate in all aspects of design and testing of gas appliances. Construct, test, evaluate and update current and new company products. Ensure products meet customer needs, safety standards of various jurisdictions, and the manufacturing capabilities of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct efficiency, gas combustion, explosion, thermal temperature, wind and other mechanical tests and analysis of gas fireplaces, components and materials to determine their performance, strength and other characteristics
- Build gas prototypes for new products, working with designers to build and design products that are easily assembled
- Test gas prototypes for function and compliance to required standards
- Coordinate with independent test labs to certify products for various markets
- Testing of new products, resolution of field issues
- Resolve testing issues
- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment
- Work independently or in conjunction with the R&D team
- Plan, organize and conduct testing to validate product design requirements
- Provide written technical reports as required
Education and Experience:
- College Diploma or Gas Fitter license with 3-5 years related work experience
- Basic gas theory is considered an asset
- Experience with gas products and combustion testing is considered an asset
- Carpentry skills, including proficiency with hand tools
- Mechanical Aptitude, with an ability to make/modify parts for test models
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), strong internet skills
- Familiarity with standards and testing procedures (CSA, UL, CE) is considered an asset
