The Opportunity:
We are searching for a Kitchen Operations Manager to join our team to spearhead back-of-house operations. This is a management role that focuses on strategy and execution skills. As a daytime establishment, we offer an appealing schedule for a better work-life balance.
Position Overview:
You will oversee our baking, retail, catering and sandwich programs as an effective operations manager. This position reports directly to the Store Manager, through the guidance of the Creative Director and Operations Director.
This is a hands-on leadership position that includes prepping and cooking, leading, planning, managing inventory, ordering, delegation and quality assurance. You will delegate a team of 2-4 employees.
Responsibilities
Product Development and Execution:
- Work with management to streamline offerings
- Forecast production and prep work
- Propose product features that align with the Creative Director’s vision
- Assist in the creation and testing of new recipes, ensuring they align with our brand
- Incorporating innovative strategies to be resourceful and overcome challenges
- Seek ways to improve kitchen operation efficiency and effectiveness
- Review data and stats to make informed decisions
Inventory and Data Management:
- Manage inventory such as purchasing, receiving, inspecting, and storing
- Track kitchen waste and look for improvements in financial return
- Review costs and wastage to maintain a healthy margin
- Understand market trends, shortages and alternatives to minimize impact
- Recognize revenue trends through reporting functions
- Reconcile profit and loss reports
- Liaise with vendors to build a strong working relationship
- Ingredient shopping when required
Culture and Leadership:
- Assist with hiring, training, disciplining, termination
- Strategically schedule staffing for effective coverage
- Conduct and implement training for BOH staff
- Provide ongoing support and feedback for staff, acting as the grease and glue
- Step in to fill positions as needed, when needed
- Operating with a “one team” mentality between front and back of house
- Attend and lead weekly management meetings

Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, ensuring all kitchen practices meet the highest standard
- Ensure adherence to policies and procedures, maintaining an environment of discipline and order.
- Act as a point of contact for Health Authorities

Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of kitchen supervisory experience with emphasis on operations
- Available 5 days a week, with weekend and holiday availability
- Production baking or cooking experience is an asset
- Class 5 driver’s license, with the ability to drive
- Familiar with the BC Employment Standards
- Effective and thorough communication skills (verbal & non-verbal)
- Balances analytical and creative skills
- Level-headed and collaborative skills for working in a team setting
- Confident to work under pressure and pivot on demand
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to overcome issues
- Effective leadership skills for organizing and planning kitchen staff
- Holds a work permit in Canada
Technical Requirements:
- FoodSafe Level 1 Required, Level 2 Preferred
- FirstAid Certificate is an asset
- Basic Microsoft Words and Excel knowledge
- Familiar with data interpretation
- Tech savvy, specifically with G-Suite functions, and other software
- Process-oriented to implement workflows
- A strong understanding of kitchen procedures, maintenance, and standards

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
