Contract Position
Position Overview
The Support Counsellor plays a key role in the day-to-day functioning of the residential program. This position combines client support, case management, group facilitation, documentation, and community engagement.
ResponsibilitiesClient Support
- Build supportive and professional relationships with clients
- Conduct regular client check-ins
- Support clients with emotional regulation and recovery goals
- Provide encouragement, accountability, and practical support throughout treatment
- Assist with admissions and orientation of new clients
Group Facilitation
- Facilitate psychoeducational and process-oriented groups
- Encourage participation and engagement in programming
- Support clients in developing coping skills, communication skills, emotional awareness, and relapse prevention strategies
- Maintain a safe and respectful group environment
Case Management
- Assist clients with appointments, community resources, discharge planning, and recovery supports
- Communicate with family members and external providers when appropriate and authorized
- Collaborate with therapists regarding client progress and treatment needs
Residential Program Support
- Maintain visibility and presence within the therapeutic community
- Support healthy boundaries and community expectations
- Address behavioural concerns and conflicts appropriately
- Monitor client participation and engagement
- Assist with maintaining a structured, recovery-oriented environment
Documentation & Communication
- Complete timely and professional documentation
- Maintain accurate client records
- Communicate effectively with therapists, counsellors, and leadership staff
- Participate in team meetings and shift handovers
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Diploma or Degree in Social Service Work, Addictions and Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or a related field
- Experience working in addictions, mental health, residential treatment, community services, or crisis settings
Considered Assets:
- Group facilitation experience
- Case management experience
- Knowledge of addiction recovery principles
- Understanding of trauma-informed care
- Familiarity with CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, or relapse prevention approaches
- Experience working with adults in residential settings
