We are actively seeking 2-3 Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist/ACA(s) to join our small veterinary clinic team in Milton (Ontario) to start by August 2026, as some of our dedicated staff depart to advance post-secondary studies & attend veterinary school.
This is a permanent position, so we are looking to hire individuals interested in longer term employment and not just seasonal. Someone with more open availability Monday to Saturday is preferred. Hours can vary between ~15-30 hours a week part time or closer to ~32-38 hrs a week full time, depending on number of candidates hired, skills and availability, but can be discussed at time of interview. There is opportunity for more hours in the future for the right person. Most shifts are 5-9 hours (~3pm-8pm, ~10am-7pm, 11am-8pm, ~9am-5:30pm, ~10/11am-6pm Sat, occasional~10am-12/1pm sun). Clinic is closed Sundays and Holidays. Schedule's are usually posted once every ~4 weeks and usually follow the same pattern or rotation once new team members are fully trained.

Our ideal candidate:
- Familiar with AVImark or any EMR/reception software ( or ability and willingness to learn very quickly and accept direction )
- Has previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting, especially with small animal handling for dogs and cats (willing to train the right individual)
- Maintains a positive and professional manner with all clients.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs safely unassisted (i.e. food bags, supply order bins, pets)
- Has obtained a high school diploma or equivalent, or higher post-secondary education.
- Must be over 18 years of age or older due to X-ray machine on site (will eventually have to assist in restraining pets during x-rays)
- Strong verbal and and written skills
- Up to date tetanus shot is highly recommended for your own safety due to risk of bites or scratches while handing cats & dogs, but not required.
Job description:
- Assisting the veterinarian and senior staff members with various tasks and treatments (eg. examinations, drawing up vaccines, holding pets for blood draws, nail trims, surgeries, euthanasia)
- Answering calls and emails in a professional manner, and maintaining proper communication notes on digital patient files.
- Scheduling appointments and calling or emailing for reminders, follow-ups, or lab results.
- On-job learning of pet nutrition, veterinary treatments, and prevention medicine and motivation to seek out and use available resources to improve your knowledge.
- Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, litter boxes and all other treatment & work areas in hospital, up to strict hospital standards.
- Preparing vaccine certificates, adding charges to files appropriately, cashing clients out using POS system for card payments.
- Attaching digital diagnostics results, records, and registrations to patient files
- Putting away supplier orders, maintaining inventory, and adding to orders.
- And other tasks depending on the day or needs of clinic (likes to keep busy).

Pay: $17.60-$18.00 per hour
