Job Summary
Saskatoon Boiler Mfg. Co. Ltd. is seeking a hands-on, safety-focused Shop Foreman/Woman to lead daily shop operations in our boiler and pressure vessel manufacturing facility.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid welding and fabrication background (Red Seal and/or B-Pressure an asset), capable of coordinating workflow, supporting employees on the floor, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
This role is responsible for supervising shop personnel, maintaining productivity, supporting quality and code compliance, and acting as the key link between production, engineering, and management.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily shop activities, including welding, fabrication, and assembly of boilers, pressure vessels, and custom projects.
- Lead, mentor, and support shop personnel to ensure safe work practices, productivity, and workmanship expectations are met.
- Plan and assign work to crews, ensuring timelines and project schedules are achieved.
- Provide hands-on guidance in layout, fit-up, welding, and fabrication processes when required.
- Monitor workflow and proactively resolve production issues to minimize delays and rework.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with engineering and management to ensure clear communication of project requirements and priorities.
- Support quality control processes by ensuring work is completed according to drawings, WPS, and applicable codes.
- Assist with inspections, troubleshooting, and addressing non-conformance issues as they arise.
- Ensure proper use of materials, tools, and equipment, and maintain a clean and organized shop.
- Participate in shop meetings, safety meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Represent Saskatoon Boiler professionally during customer visits, audits, or shop tours.
Experience & Qualifications
- Welding/fabrication background required; Red Seal Welder and/or B-Pressure qualification preferred.
- Experience in pressure vessel, boiler, or heavy industrial fabrication is a strong asset.
- Previous supervisory or foreman experience in a shop or industrial environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
- Solid understanding of fabrication processes, welding procedures, and shop operations.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
- Working knowledge of ASME and CSA codes is an asset (training can be provided).
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production deadlines.
