We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our team. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, and supporting clients in a fast-paced public practice environment.
Position Overview
The Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper will be responsible for full-cycle bookkeeping, payroll, reconciliations, government remittances, and assisting with year-end accounting files, corporate and personal tax preparation, and client support.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of independently managing multiple client files while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple corporate clients across various industries
- Preparation and review of bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Preparation and maintenance of bookkeeping records using cloud-based accounting software
- Preparation and filing of GST/PST returns and government remittances
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable management
- Preparation of working papers and assistance with year-end compilation engagements
- Assisting with preparation of T1 personal tax returns and T2 corporate tax returns
- Communication with clients regarding bookkeeping, payroll, and accounting matters
- Maintaining organized digital working paper files
- Assisting the accounting team during busy tax and year-end periods
- Liaising with CRA and responding to routine client inquiries
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Minimum 4 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience (public practice experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and accounting processes
- Experience with full-cycle bookkeeping, payroll processing, GST/PST filings, and account reconciliations
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Sage, or similar accounting software
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and client files in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a public practice CPA firm
- Experience with CaseWare, Profile, TaxCycle, or similar tax/accounting software
- Experience preparing year-end working papers
- Diploma or degree in Accounting or Bookkeeping
- CPA student or bookkeeping certification considered an asset
