The Role
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and bid submissions by reviewing project documents, performing quantity takeoffs, obtaining pricing, and supporting project planning activities.
Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and tender documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Solicit and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Develop labour, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare bid submissions using estimating software.
- Identify project assumptions, risks, and exclusions.
- Coordinate bonding, insurance, and prequalification requirements.
- Support procurement activities and material purchasing.
- Participate in project handoff meetings for successful bids.
- Work closely with project managers and field personnel to ensure estimates reflect practical construction methods.
- Assist with project scheduling and planning activities.
Qualifications
- Experience in construction estimating, project coordination, project management, or a related role.
- Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, B2W, or similar estimating software is considered an asset.
- Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of heavy civil construction.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
