Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with accounting software, financial reporting, and account reconciliation. This role is vital in maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and supporting strategic financial planning. The Controller will lead accounting functions, manage financial records, and work closely with operations, project management and external advisors.
Responsibilities
- Manage all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, inventory and general ledger activities.
- Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial reports to support management decision-making.
- Oversee account reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Conduct detailed account analysis to identify discrepancies or irregularities and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain and optimize accounting software systems such as QuickBooks and other relevant platforms.
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support organizational goals.
- Job costing, labour allocations and cost coding.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies related to financial reporting.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes efficiently.
- Collaborate with auditors during audits and prepare necessary documentation.
- Provide leadership and training to accounting staff as needed.
Qualifications
- CPA Designation
- 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years in construction or project-based accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and other accounting platforms.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, budgeting, account reconciliation, job costing and CRA compliance.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Experience in account analysis and preparing detailed financial reports.
- Ability to lead a team effectively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
