Position Summary
The Water & Wastewater Operations Supervisor this position is responsible for the efficient operations and maintenance of the water utility, meeting all the regulator requirements and obligations and functions. This position will work in a team environment alongside other operators and contractors to ensure proper planning, organization and control of the water and wastewater treatment, distribution and collection systems.
Responsibilities
Water/Wastewater Plant Operations and Maintenance
- Performs all operational duties for assigned facilities.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, approvals, guidelines, and orders.
- Adjusts, inspects, and evaluates process performance to optimize efficiency and effectiveness in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Collects, maintains, and transports process samples in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Carries out various test procedures and process calculations required to monitor process performance.
- Maintains logs and records pertaining to system performance and conditions, and preventative and repair maintenance in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Performs all facility operations, special projects and preventative maintenance duties for assigned facilities.
- Adjusts, inspects, and evaluates equipment performance to optimize efficiency and effectiveness in accordance with established procedures.
People Leadership
- Supervises day-to-day operations of the water and wastewater treatment, distribution, and collection section.
- Directs and coordinates work scheduling for operations staff.
- Trains staff in operations and maintenance of facilities.
Other Responsibilities
- Monitors performance data and reviews operational trends, operations & maintenance manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance.
- Assist in the implementing and administering all requirements of the Drinking Water Quality Management System (DWQMS).
- Acts as Overall Responsible Operator
- Undertakes special projects and performs other duties as assigned in accordance with departmental or corporate objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- College diploma in a relevant field of study, such as water and wastewater treatment, or equivalent post-secondary education and/or experience.
Experience
- 4-5 years of progressive experience working in a water/wastewater operator role with some supervisory experience.
Specialized Training & Licences
- Level 2 Water Distribution and Supply Operator Certificate of Competency.
- Level 3 Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate.
- Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certificate.
Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of water, wastewater processes and technologies.
- Possess intermediate computer skills and knowledge of process control.
- Mathematical skills.
- Chemical analysis techniques.
- Efficient and organized record keeping skills.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation techniques, practices, maintenance, and sampling.
- Able to gain entry to confined spaces and able to perform role as top-person in confined spaces.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Experience operating various computer software packages an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Other Requirements
- Minimum of a valid Ontario class G driver’s license in good standing.
- Criminal Records Check.
- Able to lift 22 kg.
Hours & Conditions of Work
Normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend shifts may be required to meet operational needs and emergency after-hours situations. Participation in an on-call rotation may be required from time to time.
This position primarily works at the plants or in the field, works with hazardous products containing MSDS, and requires moderate physical effort to operate and maintain equipment. The use of Personal Protective Equipment is required at all times.
Compensation
Middlesex Centre offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive employee benefit plan, including participation in the OMERS pension plan for this position. Compensation for this position is currently $97,468.80 to $116,022.40 per year.
