Headquartered in Toronto, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is responsible for investing in new infrastructure projects. The CIB’s mission is to work with provincial, territorial, municipal, federal, Indigenous and private sector investor partners to transform the way infrastructure is planned, financed and delivered in Canada.
The Director, Investments, is an active senior member of the CIB’s investments team and is involved in all aspects of the sourcing and execution of investment opportunities. This dynamic role includes developing creative financing strategies for projects facing financing gaps to attract private capital and leading and executing the full lifecycle of investments, including managing junior deal team members. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and knowledge in finance, private equity, equity research, investment banking or advisory in an infrastructure-related field.
Your responsibilities include:
- Managing and executing investment transactions and advisory mandates across the full investment lifecycle, including feasibility and business case assessment, investment structuring, due diligence, financial modelling, negotiation, legal documentation and internal approval materials
- Assisting in sourcing a pipeline of potential investment opportunities by establishing and maintaining a network of contacts in the public and private sectors across Canada and the infrastructure industry
- Owning the integrated investment process (IIP) for assigned transactions, ensuring deliverables, timelines and cross‑functional dependencies are effectively managed
- Providing oversight of all due diligence work streams and ensuring investment risks are identified, assessed and clearly communicated in approval documentation
- Owning the legal work stream for assigned transactions, including transaction structuring and negotiation, as well as acting as the primary interface with legal advisors and transaction counterparties
- Managing multiple transactions simultaneously, ensuring alignment with the CIB’s mandate, risk appetite and strategic priorities
- Actively supporting post‑investment portfolio management by providing strategic guidance to portfolio companies and helping unlock follow‑on capital
- Identifying emerging sectors, technologies and market trends relevant to investment activities
- Overseeing and developing junior deal team members, contributing to performance management and talent development
- Contributing to the evolution of the CIB’s investment strategy, processes and tools in support of a growing and evolving organization
The ideal profile:
- More than 10 years of infrastructure investing experience
- University undergraduate degree in a related field (finance, engineering, accounting or science)
- Master’s degree in business/finance or CFA/CPA designation, an asset
- Demonstrated experience with capital structuring at the corporate or project level and leading all aspects of the transaction cycle
- Experience with government agencies, an asset
- Experience developing and leading investment professionals as part of a high-performing team
- Self-starter with strong project management skills, relationship-building skills, leadership skills
- Strong organizational commitment, comfortable working with complexity and ambiguity, entrepreneurial and solution-oriented mindset
- Highly collaborative team player
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingualism (French and English) written and verbal, an asset
