Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Fire Alarm Technician or Electrician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a variety of Fire Alarm duties, including but not limited to the installation, maintenance, testing, verification and repair of alarm systems in residential, commercial and industrial properties. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, low voltage wiring, and the ability to read blueprints and schematics. The Fire Alarm Technician will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our clients by providing high-quality service and technical expertise.
1. Lead Inspections: The Senior Technician takes charge of complex or high-profile fire alarm system inspections, ensuring a thorough and accurate assessment. They provide guidance to junior technicians during inspections and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
2. Training and Mentorship: The Senior Technician acts as a mentor and trainer for newer technicians, sharing knowledge, expertise, and best practices. They develop and conduct training sessions to enhance the skills of the technical team.
3. Leadership Role: Demonstrating leadership qualities, the Senior Technician sets a positive example for other technicians. They collaborate with the Field Manager & Lead Senior Technician to assist in implementing company policies and procedures.
4. Quality Assurance: The Senior Technician conducts quality control checks on inspection reports to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company guidelines. They provide feedback to technicians on areas of improvement and recognition for exemplary performance.
5. Technical Support: Serving as a point of contact for technical questions or challenges from other technicians, the Senior Technician offers assistance and guidance in resolving technical issues during fieldwork.
6. Collaboration with Management: Working closely with the Service Manager, General Manager, Project Management Team and office staff, the Senior Technician communicates field-related needs, challenges, and improvements. They participate in meetings to share insights and contribute to the continuous improvement of field operations.
7. Documentation and Reporting: The Senior Technician ensures accurate and timely completion of inspection and verification reports. They collaborate with the Service Manager and Project Management Team to update and enhance the Technician Field Guide based on field experiences.
8. Safety Advocacy: The Senior Technician promotes and enforces safety protocols during inspections, emphasizing the importance of adherence to safety regulations. They conduct safety training for both new and experienced technicians.
9. Client Interaction: Acting as a representative of the company during client interactions, the Senior Technician demonstrates professionalism and excellent customer service. They address client questions or concerns related to the inspection process.
10. Continuous Learning: The Senior Technician stays updated on industry advancements, new technologies, and changes in regulations. They share relevant information with the technical team to keep them informed. This position must be prepared to receive Factory Training from Mircom.
Qualifications for this Position
- A minimum of eight (8) – ten (10) years’ experience in the Fire Alarm Industry
- Completion of a college / university diploma in Fire Protection or Electrical/Electronic or equivalent experience
- Completion of a Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification or ASTTBC equivalent
- Knowledge of the 2024 BC Building and Fire Code
- Knowledge of CAN/ULC-S536, S524 and S-537
- Demonstrated ability to program basic conventional fire alarm systems without supervision.
- Ability to complete Fire Alarm Verification – S524 competency.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills with applicable working knowledge of electronic test equipment.
- Proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft Excel, Word and associated operating systems.
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Possess a strong command of the English language, both written and oral.
- Factory training on particular system would be an asset.
