You’ll drive the vision, strategy, and execution of residential product design—owning the full lifecycle from concept through construction-ready delivery. By leading cross-functional collaboration and guiding the design team, you ensure every plan is innovative, buildable, cost-effective, and aligned with market demand. You bring a strong balance of design leadership and technical oversight, maintaining high standards for quality, compliance, and constructability. What your day may look like…
- Lead the overall design vision and execution for residential product offerings, ensuring alignment with market trends, buyer expectations, and company strategy.
- Own the full product development lifecycle—from concept to release—including standard plans, show homes, and unique showcase projects.
- Develop and maintain a strategic product roadmap, informed by market research, competitive analysis, and emerging design trends.
- Proven ability in providing insight into market trends for new homes including but not limited to market research, product development, and cost efficiency while designing the homes.
- Proven ability to collaborate with sales and estimating teams to guide product development based on feedback and design program criteria.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to design team, fostering a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the preparation of accurate, construction-ready plans, ensuring all customer selections, options, and structural requirements are fully integrated.
- Establish and enforce design standards, templates, and quality control processes to ensure consistency, constructability, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with Sales, Marketing, Estimating, Construction, and external partners to deliver cohesive, cost-effective, and buildable designs.
- Evaluate design feasibility, cost implications, and construction impacts to support value-driven decision making and profitability.
- Manage workflows and coordination across the design team to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and meet project timelines and cycle time targets.
- Provide technical oversight and approval for complex plan modifications, ensuring alignment with design intent, codes, and construction requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants, trades, and developers to support approvals and smooth project execution.
- Proactively identify and resolve design and constructability challenges throughout the project lifecycle to ensure high-quality delivery.
What you’ll bring…
- 10+ years of experience in residential design, architecture, drafting, or product development, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Degree or diploma in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of residential construction, building codes, and architectural detailing.
- Proven ability to lead high-performing design and drafting teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in product development, market analysis, and competitive research.
- Advanced technical expertise with the ability to review and approve complex plans and modifications.
- Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent).
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills, with a proactive, organized, and collaborative approach.
