About the Role: Axiom Material Handling Solutions (AMHS) is seeking a locally based Health & Safety Coordinator to support a major industrial installation project in Napanee, Ontario involving conveyor systems, structural platforms, compressed air systems, and material handling equipment (MHE).
This is a site-based safety leadership role for 6 months. The successful candidate will act as the safety presence on the ground, helping ensure the project runs safely while providing clear, factual reporting on site conditions and risks.
The Health & Safety Coordinator will conduct daily site inspections, safety reporting, and incident investigations, ensuring work complies with Ontario Safety regulations and Axiom’s Health & Safety Program.
We are seeking a local professional with construction experience who can build credibility with supervisors, trades, and subcontractors.
When site activity allows, this role will also support strengthening Axiom’s Health & Safety Program to align with Ontario regulatory requirements and COR standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Safety Leadership
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and hazard assessments
- Monitor work involving conveyor installation, lifts, structural platforms, mechanical and electrical work
- Identify hazards early and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Provide practical safety coaching to supervisors and trades.
Daily Reporting
- Provide clear, factual, and transparent daily site safety reports including:
o Site safety conditions
o Hazards observed
o Corrective actions taken
o Safety discussions or coaching completed
o Any incidents, near misses, or escalating risks
Incident Investigation
- Investigate incidents and near misses
- Conduct simple root cause analysis
- Document incidents according to Ontario's reporting requirements
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented and communicated
Compliance & Documentation
o Site inspections
o Toolbox talks
o Safety meetings
o Incident reports
o Corrective actions
o Investigations
- Support all Investigations and Policy improvements to ensure compliance with:
- Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Regulation
- Site safety plans – Axiom, Client, General Contractor, and Building Owner
- Contractor safety requirements
Safety Program Support
- Aligning Axiom’s safety program with Ontario regulations
- Supporting COR readiness and documentation improvements
- Updating hazard assessments and safe work procedures
- Improving safety reporting templates and documentation
Skills and Qualifications
Required
- 3–10 years of construction or industrial safety experience
- Strong knowledge of Ontario regulations
- Experience conducting site inspections and incident investigations
- Strong written reporting skills
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred
- Familiarity with COR programs
- Industrial construction, mechanical or electrical installation experience
- NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) or equivalent certification
- Experience working with conveyor systems, platforms, or material handling equipment
