The Sales Representative is responsible for promoting and selling liner services, maintaining relationships with customers, and identifying new business opportunities to achieve sales targets. This role requires a deep understanding of ocean shipping (container and ro-ro, freight rate terms, pricing structure, and market conditions.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing customers, including freight forwarders, shippers, and consignees.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities to increase market share and volume.
- Promote the agency’s liner services and negotiate freight rates within the company’s pricing guidelines.
- Provide accurate and timely quotations to customers and follow up on inquiries.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to provide insights for internal and principals’ commercial strategies.
- Meet or exceed assigned sales targets and KPIs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with operations and documentation teams to ensure smooth cargo handling and timely communication with customers.
- Visit customers regularly to strengthen relationships and understand their logistics requirements.
- Maintain records of sales activities, customer interactions, and market intelligence.
- Prepare sales reports, forecasts, and business development updates for management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, liner principal requirements, and industry regulations
Qualifications
- 3+ years sales experience in Liner shipping, freight pricing and trade routes.
- Post-secondary diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or another relevant field.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional languages an asset.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of liner shipping, freight pricing, and trade routes.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM tools.
- Willingness to travel for customer visits and industry events.
Working Conditions
- Extended hours in a sitting position and working in front of a computer screen.
- Frequent business travel is required.
