The Sinclair Montney Development
Paramount has sanctioned development of its Montney natural gas play at Sinclair. The play is a high-rate, low-cost natural gas project in the Grande Prairie area. The first phase of development is designed for 50,000 boe/d, with construction beginning in 2026 and firm sales egress commencing in Q4 2027, this project represents a multi-decade cornerstone for the company.
About this Opportunity
We are seeking two highly skilled and experienced Plant Lead Operators to oversee the daily operations of the Sinclair Gas Plant. This is a high-impact, hands-on role that begins with a focused operational readiness phase based out of the Grande Prairie office, transitioning to site-based leadership in Q2 2027. Reporting to the Plant Foreman, the ideal candidate will play a key role in planning, design reviews, commissioning, start-up, and operation of the facility. You will be responsible for the direct, technical oversight of the facility, ensuring all systems are commissioned and operated safely, efficiently, and in full regulatory compliance.
The successful candidate will work on a 7&7 schedule and reside in the Grande Prairie, AB area, within 100km of the Sinclair Gas Plant.
Job functions and core responsibilities will include:
Pre-Startup Phase:

Provide hands-on operational feedback to Engineering teams on plant design, focusing on operability, maintenance access, and P&ID accuracy.

Lead the development of detailed Operating Procedures, safety protocols.

Act as a key technical lead during dry and wet commissioning. Lead PSSR (Pre-Startup Safety Review) walkdowns and oversee the initial introduction of raw gas.

Assist the Foreman in mentoring the core operations team, providing technical training and guidance on specific systems.
Operational Phase:

Oversee the day-to-day safe and efficient operation of sour gas processing systems, including compression, amine sweetening, dehydration, water handling, thermal heating oil systems, turbine power generation, and acid gas compression/injection.

Collaborate with the Maintenance and Integrity SMEs to schedule equipment checks, troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, and minimize unplanned downtime.

Ensure all operations meet or exceed ABSA, AER, and environmental standards.

Lead by example in HSE, hazard identification and incident reporting.

Support and initiate reviews of safe work practices, MOC implementation and execution, prepare and present Operations weekly updates

Utilize control systems (Delta V) to monitor performance and generate regular operational reports.

Identify bottlenecks and suggest process improvements to reduce costs and optimize throughput.

Act as the primary designate for the Plant Foreman in their absence, providing leadership and maintaining communication with Marketing and Leadership regarding production impacts.

Supervise and mentor junior operators, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.

Execute comprehensive shift handovers to ensure continuity of safety, maintenance priorities, and production targets between rotations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
-
Minimum 8 years of gas plant operations experience, with at least 2 years in a Lead or supervisory capacity.

Proven expertise in sour gas processing, amine sweetening, glycol dehydration, compression, and acid gas compression and injection.

Direct experience with plant commissioning, startups, and PSSR processes is highly desirable.

Strong understanding of control systems (Delta V, SCADA) and maintenance management software (Maximo).

Experience with produced water handling and injection systems. Experience in produced water treatment facilities is considered an asset.

Demonstrated ability to mentor junior operators and maintain composure in high-pressure, dynamic work environments.

Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision, time management and organizational effectiveness are critical to this position. Flexible and adaptable to changing work environments.

Proficient in reading P&IDs and technical drawings.

Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities in high-pressure situations.

Must be able to effectively communicate with Team members, ensuring all key stakeholders such as Marketing, Leadership, HSE, Field and Plant Staff, are kept up informed on HSE Concerns, New Production and Production Impacts, and Maintenance Concerns.

High School Diploma is required; a Power Engineering Certification or completed GPO/PFO is preferred.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, H2S Alive, and First Aid certifications are required.

Familiarity with Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and a proven ability to lead initial response efforts. ICS (Incident Command System) training is an asset.

Good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs. Must be able to learn, adhere and work with all Paramount software, including Maximo.
Working Conditions
-
Schedule: 7&7 schedule (7 days on, 7 days off cross shift rotation). Must be willing to be on-call and work overtime as required during commissioning and critical operational phases.

Location: Candidates must reside within the Grande Prairie, AB area, within a 100km radius of the Sinclair Gas Plant site.

Transition: The role is based in the Grande Prairie office until Q2 2027 (including travel to the Sinclair site during construction), transitioning to full site-based leadership at the Sinclair Gas Plant thereafter.
