Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Licensed Optician to join our healthcare team. We currently have 2 locations and the position could be at either. One location is in Burnaby and the other in Vancouver. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in ophthalmology, optical sales, and medical records management, with a focus on providing exceptional patient care and support within a clinical or retail setting. This role offers an opportunity to work with diverse patient populations, including pediatrics and senior care, utilizing advanced EMR systems and adhering to HIPAA regulations. The Licensed Optician will play a vital role in ensuring accurate fitting, dispensing, and maintenance of optical devices while maintaining compliance with medical and laboratory standards.
Duties
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear based on prescriptions, lifestyle needs, and aesthetic preferences
- Conduct comprehensive eye exams, including vital signs and anatomy assessments, to support accurate prescriptions
- Utilize laboratory experience to verify lens accuracy and ensure proper fitting of frames
- Manage optical inventory, including retail management and retail math for stock control and sales tracking
- Perform medical coding and billing procedures related to optical services in compliance with healthcare regulations
- Operate EMR systems such as Epic and other electronic medical record platforms to document patient interactions accurately
- Educate patients on ophthalmology topics, including physiology knowledge, medical terminology, and aseptic techniques for contact lens fitting or procedures
- Support clinic operations by managing medical records securely while maintaining HIPAA compliance
- Provide excellent retail sales service while ensuring patient satisfaction through personalized recommendations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers on senior care cases or pediatrics to optimize visual health outcomes
Experience
- Prior experience in optical or ophthalmology settings is required; laboratory experience is highly preferred
- Proven knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical billing practices related to eye care
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms used in clinics or hospitals
- Experience working with pediatric or senior patient populations is advantageous
- Retail sales experience within an optical or healthcare environment is desirable
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and aseptic techniques necessary for maintaining patient confidentiality and safety
- Previous roles involving medical coding or medical records management will be considered a strong asset
