Working within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering environment will expose the successful candidate to collaboration with all four disciplines — Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering.
Reporting to the Civil Principal, you are a proactive and experienced engineering professional with strong leadership capabilities. You are passionate about land development and municipal servicing, have a solid understanding of subdivision and site plan projects, and are confident managing teams and delivering high-quality work under pressure. You bring not only technical strength but the ability to manage projects and mentor others with professionalism and precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Land Development Design: Lead subdivision and site plan designs from concept through construction, including site grading, roadways, lot grading plans, sanitary and storm sewers, watermains, SWM facilities, and Erosion & Sediment Control.
- Reports & Approvals: Prepare Functional Servicing Reports (FSR), Stormwater Management Reports (SWM), Master Servicing Summaries, and support Draft Plan/Site Plan approval conditions, MECP ECA applications, and Conservation Authority permits.
- Design Production: Develop and review Civil 3D models, alignments, corridors, pipe networks, profiles, cross-sections, details, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates; assemble tender/IFC packages using OPSS/OPSD and municipal standards.
- Coordination & Stakeholders: Coordinate with internal structural/mechanical/electrical teams, planners, surveyors, geotechnical and traffic consultants, utilities, municipalities, and developers.
- Project Management: Define scopes, budgets, and schedules; track progress, manage risks, and lead design and review meetings; maintain clear documentation and quality control.
- Construction Support: Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, conduct field reviews, prepare site instructions and as-built markups, and support assumption/clearance processes.
- Mentorship & Standards: Coach EITs and junior designers, contribute to CAD/modeling standards, and advance best practices including LID/green infrastructure.
- Business Support: Assist with proposals, work plans, and fee estimates; participate in client presentations as required.
Requirements
- Proven experience delivering Ontario land development projects (greenfield and/or infill), including subdivision and site plan design, municipal servicing, and stormwater management.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (surfaces, grading, corridors, pipe networks), quantity take-offs, and cost estimating.
- Working knowledge of OPSS/OPSD, municipal standards and guidelines, MECP requirements, Conservation Authority policies, and the land development approvals process (Draft Plan/Site Plan, ECA, clearance).
- Familiarity with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., PCSWMM/SWMM, HEC-RAS; WaterCAD/WaterGEMS or InfoWorks ICM an asset).
- Excellent communication, organization, and time-management; able to lead meetings and deliver under deadlines.
- Valid driver’s licence; occasional travel to sites/municipal meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- P.Eng. (Ontario) required.
- 7+ years of progressive civil/land development experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario standards and approvals is required. Applicants with equivalent Canadian experience who can demonstrate immediate proficiency with Ontario regulations are encouraged to apply.
