Alo, which opened in July of 2015, is a contemporary French restaurant located atop a heritage building in downtown Toronto. Our cuisine is internationally inspired and celebrates the finest in seasonal ingredients paired with a genuine sense of welcome. We are refiners: we take time-honoured comforts and seek to do them better than we did last time, evolving to make them ever more delightful.
Our Dining Room serves blind, multi-course tasting menus. Comfortable tables accommodate 2-4 guests. Our chic Barroom, situated in an adjacent room, offers a succinct à la carte food menu to complement its classically-inspired cocktails.
We are seeking a talented and passionate Pastry Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in baking and pastry arts, with experience in creating visually appealing and delicious desserts. This role offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your creativity and culinary skills in a dynamic restaurant environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily pastry production, including petit fours, seasonal desserts, breads, and specialty pastry items.
- Oversee pastry service, ensuring consistency, quality, and precision in execution and presentation.
- Organize service flow, manage ticket timing, and collaborate closely with the kitchen and front-of-house teams.
- Develop and execute new dessert concepts, tasting menu components, and seasonal offerings.
- Bring forward creative ideas, techniques, and ingredients that contribute to the ongoing evolution of the pastry program.
- Maintain the highest standards of food quality, cleanliness, and organization within the pastry department.
- Manage inventory, ordering, and product utilization to minimize waste and maintain operational efficiency.
- Train, mentor, and support junior pastry team members, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.
- Ensure all food safety, sanitation, and workplace standards are consistently met.
Skills
- Proven experience in a pastry leadership role within a fine dining, Michelin-starred, or high-end restaurant environment.
- Strong foundation in classical and contemporary pastry techniques.
- Experience with plated desserts, bread production, chocolate work, and petits fours.
- Demonstrated creativity and a passion for menu development and innovation.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to lead by example in a detail-oriented kitchen environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to hospitality, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement.
