Primary Responsibilities:

Review and interpret title opinions, title searches, registry searches and related documentation, applying underwriting principles to process residential title insurance requests

Investigate and resolve underwriting matters, including title and off-title issues, and support fraud mitigation by conducting risk assessments and determining insurability

Evaluate risks associated with insuring real estate transactions in accordance with company underwriting guidelines and applicable Newfoundland and Labrador real property practices.

Provide guidance to lawyers, law clerks, legal assistants, conveyancers, and clients regarding title insurance coverage and underwriting requirements.

Manage a large volume of files efficiently, meeting tight deadlines and maintaining compliance with company standards

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients by addressing inquiries and resolving any concerns

Respond and manage client service calls through the underwriting phone queue

Stay current with developments in Newfoundland and Labrador real estate, land registration, and title insurance practices.

Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the overall goals of the team and organization
Qualifications:

Law Clerk diploma or equivalent legal education from an accredited post-secondary institution

Experience working with real estate transactions in Newfoundland & Labrador and other Atlantic Canadian jurisdictions

Minimum 5 years of real estate experience in Newfoundland and Labrador gained within a law firm, title insurance company, or conveyancing environment, with a strong understanding of title issues and their resolution

Familiarity with real estate fraud trends, recognition of fraud red flags, and experience with fraud mitigation tools

Self-motivated professional with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Excellent multi-tasking, organizational, and time management skills, including attention to detail and the ability to set priorities and meet competing deadlines

Proven customer service experience and a strong commitment to delivering responsive, professional service

Strong analytical skills and the ability to problem-solve with minimal direction

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Flexible team player

Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with legal and real estate software platforms, electronic registration systems, and online land records/search tools used within Newfoundland and Labrador and Atlantic Canada
