Position Summary
We are seeking a licensed Supervising Dentist to provide clinical oversight in our Dental Assisting Student Clinic at our Downtown Calgary Campus. This short-term contract is an excellent opportunity for a dentist who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and supporting the next generation of dental professionals in a clinical learning environment.
The Supervising Dentist will ensure safe, high-quality patient care while providing guidance and supervision to Dental Assisting students as they perform procedures within their legislated scope of practice.
Location: Downtown Calgary Campus
Contract Dates: Approximately October 21 – November 5, 2026 (3-week contract; dates subject to minor adjustments based on student enrollment and will be confirmed)
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise students during clinical sessions and provide professional guidance and mentorship.
- Review and supervise dental radiographs.
- Conduct patient examinations.
- Assess patients and prescribe appropriate preventive dental procedures within the Dental Assistant scope of practice, including:
- Dental sealants
- Desensitizing treatments
- Dental prophylaxis
- Other approved preventive procedures
- Ensure all clinical activities meet professional, ethical, and regulatory standards.
- Support students in developing clinical competence through constructive feedback and oversight.
- Complete required clinical documentation and referrals as appropriate.
Please note that this is a Dental Assisting teaching clinic. Any restorative or other dental treatment outside the Dental Assistant scope of practice will be referred back to the patient's regular dentist using referral forms provided at the conclusion of the appointment.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or equivalent dental degree.
- Current, unrestricted licence to practice dentistry in Alberta.
- Strong clinical judgment and commitment to patient safety.
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
- Previous teaching or clinical supervision experience is considered an asset.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Clinic day begins at 8:00 AM.
- Patient appointments typically conclude by 3:00 PM.
- Underground parking is available within the building.
- A private office is provided for the Supervising Dentist throughout the day.
- While there is no scheduled lunch break, the clinic schedule allows for several short breaks between patients as available.
