Hours: 24-Hours a week (Some weekend and evenings required)

Salary: $32 an Hour
Cowichan Women Against Violence Society (CWAVS) is seeking a Police-Based Victim Services Worker to provide immediate trauma-informed, client-centered services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. This position serves the North Cowichan-Duncan, Lake Cowichan, and Shawnigan Lake RCMP detachments, working collaboratively to deliver the best support possible.

What You’ll be Doing:
· Assist Police with victims at the scene, hospital, or RCMP Detachment, providing crisis intervention supports to victims, witnesses, and their families/friends.
· Provide information at the scene with Police regarding processes with the Coroner and Funeral Homes to families in cases of Sudden Deaths and Notification of Kin.
· Provide information to victims (by phone or in person) regarding Protection Orders, legal information, Police file updates, and referrals to other agencies when required.
· Provide safety planning to victims for housing, legal resources, financial assistance, and CVAP.
· Assist in providing Court updates to victims/witnesses, including attending meetings with Crown Counsel, preparing for Court, and attending Court trials/hearings (working with RCMP Victim Services Court Liaison Caseworker)
· Act as a liaison between victims/witnesses and social service agencies such as MCFD, Cowichan Tribes, and other community agencies.
· Assist victims/witnesses in completing Crime Victim Assistance applications and Victim Impact Statements for Court.
· Ensure services meet mandated deliverables as set out in the contract with the Victim Services Division (RCMP) and Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
· Refer where possible to relevant Victim Services Programs, such as Community Based Victim Services or Child and Youth Advocacy Centers.
· Assist with office duties and remain up to date with policies and procedures involving the position and RCMP VS unit.
Our Ideal Candidate Brings:
· Ability to secure RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
*Preference may be given to those who already hold Clearance.
· University Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience in the field of social sciences (sociology, psychology, criminology, or a related discipline).
· Introduction to Trauma-Informed practice preferred, as well as any additional training and experience in crisis intervention.
· Must possess a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license in good standing and have the ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
· Working knowledge of the Court Justice system, Police procedures, and Victims' Rights under the Victims of Crime Act and the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights.
· Exceptional communication skills in dealing with RCMP, community service partners, Crown Counsel, and the public.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-regulate, and work with others in moments of trauma.
· Ability to handle emotional situations with an unbiased and non-judgmental approach and handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Work Environment:
· This role requires working at Police scenes, hospitals, or RCMP Detachments to provide crisis intervention supports.
· The position involves frequent interaction with victims/witnesses of crime and trauma, requiring self-regulation and the ability to work in high-stress moments.
· Collaborative work between Cowichan Women Against Violence Society and the RCMP is essential to this role.
