JOB SUMMARY:
The Launch Captain will work on the Club’s two antique launches, the Kwasind and Hiawatha, both 60-foot ferries that exemplify the strong traditions of the RCYC. This position requires strong dedication to Club objectives, a conscious approach to duties, and willingness to meet Member satisfaction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Boat Operation: Safely and efficiently operate Club-owned vessels, while adhering to all local, provincial, and federal maritime regulations.

Customer Service: Provide exceptional service by assisting members and guests with boarding/disembarkation, answering questions, and addressing concerns.

Safety Compliance: Ensure all safety equipment is aboard and in good working order, as well as conduct pre-departure safety briefings when necessary.

Maintenance: Perform routine checks on the vessel, including fuel, mechanical systems, and cleanliness, and report any issues to the supervisor.

Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and any incidents.

Emergency Response: Act promptly and effectively in emergencies, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
Requirements & Qualifications:

Master 150 Gross Tonnage Certificate

Toronto Harbour License, or willingness to obtain.

Valid Marine Basic First Aid certificate.

Valid Marine Medical

Minimum three (3) years of experience in the marine environment.

Knowledge of marine repair and maintenance methods an asset

Candidates who, in addition to the above, have relevant skills such as ship-handling, customer service, will be given strong consideration.

A positive attitude and good work ethic.

If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection).
HOURS OF WORK & LOCATION:

Must be available to work weekdays, weekends, evening shifts and public holidays.

Seasonal contract: July to end of October. Part-time/On-Call Position.

Able to work from 150 Cherry St. with free parking and accessible via public transit.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This job requires prolonged periods of standing and walking outside throughout the Island. Lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds, as well as frequent bending, are also required.
