Join the Open Canopy Tree Company team as a Ground Worker and be an essential part of every successful job. This is an active, outdoor position where you'll work alongside skilled arborists to keep job sites safe, efficient, and productive.
Your day may include operating equipment, managing ropes, feeding brush into chippers, assisting with tree pruning and removals, maintaining a clean and organized worksite, and ensuring the crew has the support needed to complete projects safely and efficiently. As the backbone of the operation, you'll play a critical role in helping aerial crews perform at their best.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist climbers and bucket operators during tree pruning and removal operations
- Safely drag brush, wood, and debris to designated drop zones
- Feed brush into wood chipper following safe operating procedures
- Stack, load, and remove wood from job sites
- Run ropes for controlled lowering of limbs as directed by the climber
- Maintain clear communication with aerial crew using company-provided Bluetooth headsets
- Perform site setup upon arrival, including unloading equipment and staging gear
- Fuel and maintain chainsaws and basic equipment
- Assist with servicing equipment such as chainsaws, wood chippers, and stump grinders
- Perform end-of-day job site cleanup and equipment pack-up
- Keep trucks, trailers, and shop areas clean and organized
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times
Qualifications & Experience
- Prior experience in tree care, landscaping, construction, or physical outdoor work is an asset
- Mechanical knowldege is an asset
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work in physically demanding conditions
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
- Ability to take direction and work as part of a team
- Valid driver’s licence is an asset (but not required)
