IUPAT DC38 Painters Union is accepting applications for our Industrial Painter Trade Entry Program — designed for motivated entry-level candidates looking to start a career in the industrial coatings industry.
This program gives successful applicants a head start into the trade with industry-recognized safety certifications, basic skills training, and direct pathways to apprenticeship and employment opportunities throughout the Lower Mainland.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

WHAT YOU’LL RECEIVE
- 2 weeks of entry-level industrial trade training
- Industry safety certifications including:
- WHMIS
- Fall Protection
- Confined Space Entry
- Respirator Fit Test
- Audiogram Testing
- Aerial Lift / Elevated Work Platform
- Introduction to industrial painting and coatings work
- Exposure to shop and field work environments
- Opportunity for apprenticeship placement with union contractors
- Career pathway toward Red Seal certification and long-term employment
HANDS-ON TRAINING INCLUDES
- Hand tool and power tool surface preparation
- Industrial cleaning and surface preparation methods
- Abrasive blasting / sandblasting fundamentals
- Brush and roll coating application
- Working to coating specifications, standards, and safety procedures
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We want applicants who are:
- Reliable and motivated
- Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on work
- Interested in construction, industrial work, or the skilled trades
- Willing to learn and build a long-term career
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation are strong assets.
No previous experience required — attitude and commitment matter most.
ABOUT THE INDUSTRY
Industrial painters and coating applicators work on major infrastructure and industrial projects throughout BC, including bridges, ports, manufacturing facilities, marine projects, and heavy industry.
This is a specialized trade offering strong long-term earning potential, benefits, pension, and apprenticeship opportunities.
LOCATION
Training takes place in Surrey, BC.
Employment opportunities may be available throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
