Position Summary
The Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of plumbing systems within municipal buildings, facilities, and infrastructure. This role ensures compliance with plumbing codes, safety regulations, and operational standards while diagnosing and resolving plumbing issues to maintain safe and efficient plumbing systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems in municipal facilities.
- Diagnose plumbing issues and perform corrective repairs to prevent leaks, blockages, and system failures.
- Conduct routine inspections of pipes, valves, fixtures, and backflow prevention devices to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings for plumbing installations and upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with the Ontario Plumbing Code and all applicable safety and municipal regulations.
- Perform preventative maintenance to extend the lifespan of plumbing systems and reduce emergency repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs.
- Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and service providers on plumbing projects and infrastructure improvements.
- Respond to emergency plumbing issues, implementing immediate solutions to minimize service disruptions.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines, including proper handling of plumbing tools, cleaning chemicals and equipment and properly utilize personal protective equipment (PPE).

Education & Certifications
- Certification as a Red Seal Plumber (306A).
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, with access to a reliable vehicle.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in plumbing maintenance, installation, and repair in an industrial, commercial, or municipal setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Plumbing Systems Expertise: Strong understanding of water supply, drainage, sanitary systems, plumbing tools, pipe-cutting equipment, and soldering and welding techniques.
- Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of the Ontario Plumbing Code, building codes, and municipal plumbing standards.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Ability to assess plumbing issues, determine causes, and implement solutions.
- Blueprint & Schematic Reading: Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of confined space procedures, hazard identification, and proper PPE use.
- Problem-Solving: Strong ability to troubleshoot plumbing malfunctions and develop effective repair strategies.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize work orders, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines efficiently.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with internal teams, contractors, and external service providers.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with other tradespeople, municipal staff, and management.
- Technical Proficiency: Capable of learning and utilizing electronic systems to manage and track work assignments.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in municipal buildings and outdoor environments.
- Standard business hours, Monday-Friday with occasional evening or weekend work for emergency and planned maintenance activities.
- Exposure to hazardous materials, confined spaces, heights, and varying weather conditions.
- Cognitive demands include problem-solving and decision-making, particularly when dealing with complex plumbing tasks or unexpected repair needs.
- Physical demands include standing for long periods, lifting heavy materials, bending, and working in confined areas.
