About the Role
Tl’azt’en Nation is seeking an Away From Home Coordinator / Off-Reserve Liaison to support Tl’azt’en members who live away from home, including members residing in Prince George and other urban centres.
This role is focused on strengthening connection between off-reserve members and the Community by improving access to Nation programs, services, events, culture, language, governance updates, and supports.
Based out of Prince George, the Away From Home Coordinator / Off-Reserve Liaison will serve as a key point of contact for members living off reserve. This position involves outreach, communication, service navigation, event coordination, advocacy, documentation, and relationship building with members, Elders, youth, families, staff, leadership, service providers, and partner organizations.
The goal of this position is to strengthen belonging, communication, cultural connection, and access for Tl’azt’en members living away from Tache and Middle River.
Key Responsibilities
The Away From Home Coordinator / Off-Reserve Liaison will:
- Engage with members living away from home through outreach, phone calls, emails, meetings, workshops, events, and digital communication.
- Act as a point of contact for off-reserve members seeking information about Tl’azt’en Nation programs, services, events, and supports.
- Support members in navigating Nation services, including education, health, housing, social development, culture, language, and other program areas.
- Maintain and update an off-reserve member contact list while respecting confidentiality and privacy.
- Coordinate virtual meetings, workshops, information sessions, cultural activities, and community engagement opportunities.
- Assist in planning off-reserve gatherings and outreach events in Prince George and other urban centres as approved.
- Help connect members living away from home with Tl’azt’en language, culture, Elders, youth activities, and community events.
- Support transportation planning or coordination for members attending events in Tache or Middle River where applicable.
- Assist with special event and holiday initiatives, including mailouts or packages for off-reserve members where approved.
- Build referral relationships with urban Indigenous organizations, service providers, and community agencies.
- Advocate respectfully for member needs and help identify barriers faced by off-reserve members.
- Track member inquiries, referrals, engagement activities, attendance, barriers, and follow-up items.
- Prepare monthly reports, quarterly summaries, and an annual report with recommendations.
- Assist with basic budget tracking, receipts, invoices, travel costs, supplies, and event-related paperwork.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in community outreach, member services, administration, social services, events, communications, or program coordination.
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work respectfully with members, Elders, youth, families, staff, leadership, and service providers.
- Understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries, and working in a small community.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, follow up on inquiries, and meet reporting deadlines.
- Basic computer skills, including email, calendars, Microsoft Office, file management, and virtual meeting tools.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence preferred.
- Knowledge of Tl’azt’en Nation, community protocols, culture, language, and values is an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, urban Indigenous organizations, or off-reserve members is an asset.
Working Conditions
- This position is based out of Prince George, BC.
- Travel to Tache, Middle River, and other urban centres may be required.
- Some evening or weekend work may be required for events, workshops, meetings, or community engagement.
- The role involves regular communication with members, staff, leadership, service providers, and partner organizations.
- The position may involve attending community events, workshops, gatherings, and meetings in person.
- The role may require light lifting, carrying supplies, setting up materials, and assisting with event logistics.
