The QA/QC Technician is part of the Quality Assurance department, reporting directly to the VP, Regulatory Affairs and will be primarily responsible for the monitoring and quality control of cannabis production. The role will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Good Production Practices (GPP), and other regulatory requirements as needed.
This is an on-site, 11AM-7PM Monday-Friday, weekends as required position. Facility is in Pickering, ON.
Position Responsibilities
- Support and guarantee product quality and safety at every step of the production process to ensure product manufacturing follows the Cannabis Act and its regulations
- Perform in process-checks and label verification on the production floor
- Perform equipment and room cleaning verification
- Verify production tasks that are completed according to good documentation practices
- Ensure scale verifications are performed, and calibration is up to date
- Verify non-cannabis incoming materials
- Verify outgoing and incoming cannabis
- Report any deviation to post-production supervisors and QAP, and assist in investigation, as necessary
- Monitor environmental conditions for operations and storage areas, and report deviations immediately
- Verify sanitation documentation and activity logbooks (room and equipment) prior to line clearance and start up approval
- Ensure that SOPs are followed/implemented at every step of the process from the point of receiving cannabis through manufacturing and until shipment of bulk cannabis and/or cannabis product
- Identify areas for quality control improvement and implement new methods accordingly
- Communicate quality or compliance concerns with urgency
- Responsible for monitoring, and programing critical control points (CCP)
- Ensures employees are following GPP requirements, such as wearing proper PPE
- Collect product samples for lab tests as directed
- Perform daily site inspections
Additional Duties
- Ensure all employees are compliant with company SOPs, Good Production Practices, and Cannabis Regulations
- Assist with developing SOPs, including executing protocols and working with SMEs, as necessary
- Assist with internal Quality audits of internal departments, as necessary.

Minimum Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Science, Quality, or a related discipline is an asset
- Minimum 1-2 years of professional related experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control within a cannabis, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of the Cannabis Act and cannabis regulations, ISO, HACCP, GMP or other quality systems is preferred
- Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential quality and compliance issues
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT)
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision while collaborating effectively with Quality, Production, and other cross-functional teams to support quality and compliance objectives
- Flexibility and adaptability to take up additional duties and cross train
