Primary Duties
The Network Coordinator – Outside Plant, plans, configures and organizes work relating to network installation, operation and maintenance (LAN, MAN and WAN services) for both a metropolitan area network and a regional ISP with connections provided by fibre optics, copper and wireless. They design, price and project manage the installation of outside plant network elements for backbone network connectivity as well as last mile connectivity into customer locations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate with other members of the team to understand new customer connection requirements.
2. Analyze installation options and determine the most suitable solution for the company.
3. Prepare sketches outlining new infrastructure installation and required information for permitting authorities.
4. Submit permit applications to relevant stakeholders to obtain permits required for the construction of infrastructure.
5. Coordinate site visits with 3rd parties to determine infrastructure pathing requirements and proposed work.
6. Establish project schedules for construction and customer premise installation projects.
7. Communicate project status to stakeholders to ensure resources are up to date and prepared for the next project phase.
8. Document network installations and ensure GIS records are updated.
9. Monitor project spending to ensure projects are completed within budget.
10. Proactively communicate with customers regarding project status and respond to inquiries in an expedient manner.
11. Support management to complete pricing activities and network infrastructure expansion planning.
12. Troubleshoot and resolve network infrastructure issues.
13. Ensure splicing activities are captured in splice logs, monitor splice logs and action where infrastructure may become congested.
14. Maintain inventory, order and pick up supplies as required.
15. Ensure locates for telecommunications infrastructure is completed on a timely basis.
16. Ensure work is completed in compliance with safety policies, procedures, regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required
1. Post-secondary diploma in an Electronics Technology program
2. 3-5 years’ experience in a network management or telecommunications construction environment
3. Experience installing, commissioning and testing fibre optic and wireless connections an asset
4. Class G drivers’ licence
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Advanced knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure (fibre optic and wireless) construction methodologies and applications
2. Advanced knowledge of telecommunications (fibre optic and wireless) network design
3. Intermediate knowledge of network infrastructure troubleshooting techniques and methodologies
4. Advanced knowledge of fibre optic locating methodologies
5. Intermediate knowledge of project management methodologies
6. Intermediate proficiency with MS 365
7. Intermediate ability to use hand tools and perform fibre optic splicing
8. Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
9. Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
