Summary
The role is responsible for operating and maintaining the gummy coating machine to ensure consistent, high-quality finish on all gummy products. This position sits within Production and is critical to achieving throughput, product quality, and compliance standards in a regulated supplement manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation and Process Execution
- Operate, set up, and shut down the gummy coating machine according to established SOPs.
- Measure, mix, and load coating materials (oil, wax, sugar, sour blend, etc.) in accurate ratios.
- Monitor coating parameters including drum speed, temperature, airflow, and batch weight.
- Adjust machine settings in real time to maintain uniform coating coverage and prevent clumping or breakage.
- Complete in-process checks for coating thickness, appearance, and sensory quality.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Follow cGMP, HACCP, and internal production standards at all times.
- Document batch records, coating parameters, deviations, and material usage accurately.
- Coordinate with QA when issues arise, including coating inconsistencies, foreign material risks, or equipment anomalies.
- Maintain lot traceability for all coating components.
Equipment Maintenance & Sanitation
- Perform routine cleaning, sanitation, and lubrication of the coating machine.
- Troubleshoot and resolve minor mechanical or process issues during production.
- Escalate major mechanical concerns to Maintenance or Production Lead.
- Ensure the machine and surrounding area meet sanitation standards before each run.
Production Support
- Work with the Production Lead to plan daily coating batches and meet production schedules.
- Assist with weighing, staging, and transferring batches.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to throughput, yield, and coating quality.
Qualifications
Required
- 1–2 years of experience in food, supplement, or confectionery production is preferred.
- Experience operating coating, panning, or similar food processing equipment.
- Ability to follow SOPs, measure accurately, and maintain records.
- Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to lift 25–50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Preferred
- Experience with gummy or soft candy coating operations.
- Knowledge of cGMP, HACCP, NSF, or Health Canada regulations.
- Prior experience in a supplement manufacturing facility.
