THE OPPORTUNITY
Altea is not another big box gym. It is not a boutique studio. It is something the Canadian fitness industry has not seen before, and the people who make that true work across every department, every shift, every interaction with every member.
The Assistant General Manager is the person who holds the club together when the CGM is building what comes next. You are not a deputy. You are not an administrator. You are a leader who runs a full operation at a high standard, develops department heads with intention, and makes the club better because you are in it.
This is a role for someone who has been excellent somewhere that was not quite worthy of their effort. Someone who is ready to run a club of this calibre, and who sees this role as the step that proves it.
WHAT YOU'LL LEAD
- The Operation. When the CGM is not in the building, you are. Member experience, fitness, recovery, food and beverage, facilities, and sales. All of it runs to the same standard regardless of who is present.
- Department Head Development. You work alongside the CGM to coach, develop, and hold accountable the managers across every department. You know their numbers, their people challenges, and where they need to grow.
- Service Excellence. You are visible on the floor. You know your members, you notice gaps before they become patterns, and you resolve concerns before they require escalation.
- Financial Performance. Revenue, attrition, labour efficiency, and profitability are your numbers as much as the CGM's. You live inside the budget, flag variances early, and drive results with the same urgency.
- Succession and Culture. You build into the culture, not the org chart. The club should be able to perform at a high level in your absence and the CGM's because of what you have built and who you have developed.
WHO YOU ARE
Not the loudest in the room. Not the one who needs credit for the result. The one who makes every department head around them better, holds the standard without being asked, and finds deep satisfaction in watching a good operation become a great one.
- You lead from the floor. You know the names of team members across every department. You give credit down and take accountability up. Presence is how trust gets built.
- You are hungry for results, not recognition. You take attrition numbers personally. You notice when a department head is plateauing and you do something about it.
- You are genuinely good with people. You read a room. You know when someone on your team is off before they say anything. Multi-disciplinary leadership across fitness, hospitality, facilities, and service requires emotional intelligence at every interaction.
- You develop people as a reflex. Not a quarterly initiative. You identify talent early, create real growth opportunities, and build succession into the culture.
- You execute within a proven system. The playbook exists and it works. You are here to run it better than anyone else has, and in doing so, help refine it.
- You hold the standard without being told. Cleanliness, service consistency, team culture, presentation. These are not things you check on when there is a complaint. They are things you care about because you are proud of where you work.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of senior facility, hospitality, or operations leadership in a premium or luxury environment
- 3+ years of experience leading department heads or multi-team managers, not just frontline staff
- Demonstrated ability to develop leaders across both management and specialist growth tracks
- Strong financial literacy. You understand a P&L, you read KPIs, and you act on what the numbers tell you
- Proven track record of sustaining a high-performance team culture under pressure
- University degree in Business, Management, Kinesiology, Hospitality, Recreation, or a related field preferred
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C, maintained annually
- Criminal Background Check required prior to commencement
WHAT YOU'LL EARN
This is a leadership role compensated at a level that reflects the standard we hold and the calibre of person we are looking for. All rates of pay are confidential. SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
One year in, your department heads are stronger. At least one person has grown into a bigger role. Member retention, utilization, and satisfaction are at or above benchmark. The club runs at a high standard when you are in the building and when you are not. The CGM trusts you to hold the operation completely. You are not waiting to be a CGM. You are proving you already are one.
