West Isle Industries is a long-established architectural millwork and custom cabinetry manufacturer based in Langford, BC, serving general contractors, architects, and designers across Vancouver Island and British Columbia.
Our work spans commercial interiors, hospitality, institutional, and high-end residential projects: reception desks, custom cabinetry, vanities, feature millwork, and more. Role Overview
We are looking for a Project Manager who knows custom millwork, not just construction. You will own projects from approved contract through to final installation: on time, on budget, and to the quality standard our clients hire us for.
This role lives at the intersection of the client, the drawings, and the shop floor. The PMs who succeed here can read a shop drawing fluently, understand how casework actually gets built, and ask the right technical questions early, before a problem on paper becomes a problem in the shop. You will be the primary point of contact for clients, coordinate materials and production scheduling, and make sure every handoff between drafting, production, and installation is clean.
Key Responsibilities
Project Ownership & Client Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Set clear expectations with clients regarding timelines, deliverables, and site requirements.
- Attend site meetings (virtual or in-person), ensuring project scope aligns with real-world site conditions.
- Build durable working relationships with the general contractors and designers who bring us repeat business. Making their job easier is how we operate.
Material & Production Coordination
- Work closely with our drafting team on shop drawings. We don't expect that you will produce drawings yourself, but you will review them critically, catch issues before fabrication, and hold the standard that drawings are approved before anything gets cut.
- Ensure site measurements are accurately obtained before fabrication begins.
- Order all necessary materials, including sheet goods, hardware, and specialty components, and track logistics so issues get caught early.
- Plan and schedule production within the shop to align with installation deadlines.
Quality Control & Troubleshooting
- Perform rigorous quality checks on all finished millwork before it leaves the shop.
- Identify and resolve any deficiencies before installation.
- Anticipate and proactively solve on-site issues, ensuring a smooth client experience.
- Coordinate and oversee installation teams, ensuring work is completed efficiently and to spec.
Scheduling & Logistics
- Create and maintain project timelines, adjusting as needed based on shop capacity and site conditions.
- Ensure materials and completed millwork arrive at the job site on schedule.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, keeping all stakeholders informed of progress.
Requirements
Must-Have Skills
- Project management experience in millwork, cabinetry, or custom architectural woodwork. This is the foundation of the role. Strong construction PMs with substantial millwork or custom fabrication exposure will also be considered.
- Fluency reading shop drawings and blueprints. You can spot a dimension conflict, a hardware clash, or a site condition problem on paper.
- A working understanding of how custom casework is built: materials, hardware, machining, assembly, finishing, and installation, and what each stage needs from the one before it.
- Strong time management and organizational skills. This role involves juggling multiple projects at once.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset. Unexpected challenges will arise, and the ability to adapt quickly is key.
- Clear, professional communication. You will interact with clients, shop teams, installers, and suppliers daily.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years managing projects in millwork, cabinetry, or related custom manufacturing.
- Familiarity with drafting or CAD/CAM software used in our industry, such as Microvellum, Cabinet Vision, AutoCAD, or similar. Our drafting team produces the drawings, but PMs who understand how those tools work have a real advantage here.
- Experience across commercial and residential construction environments.
- Experience working with installers & trades in both shop and field settings.
