CLASS 5 DRIVER – OIL CITY EXPRESS | FORT MCMURRAY
Oil City Express is a well-established, family-owned freight carrier that has proudly served Fort McMurray and Northern Alberta for over 27 years. We are currently hiring a full-time Class 5 Driver based out of our Fort McMurray warehouse.
This is steady, year-round local work. You are home daily. We operate modern, well-maintained equipment and are looking for professional drivers who take pride in safety, reliability, and customer service.
COMPENSATION
- Starting wage: $27.00 per hour
- Overtime paid at time-and-a-half in accordance with applicable legislation
- Bi-weekly payroll (paid every second Friday)
- GreenShield medical benefits after 3 months (cost-shared)
SCHEDULE
- Monday to Friday
- Average 8 hours per day (some days may be shorter or longer)
- Typical start time is 8:00 AM (earlier starts occasionally required)
- Occasional Saturday work may be required on an as-needed basis
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate 24-foot 5-ton box trucks and 24-foot 5-ton flat deck trucks
- Complete local deliveries and pickups within Fort McMurray and surrounding industrial areas
- Primarily deliver freight to oil sands and industrial worksites
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Complete driver logs, time sheets, and required paperwork accurately
- Properly load, secure, and handle freight
- Maintain shipping documentation and obtain required signatures
- Communicate with dispatch regarding delivery status, delays, or issues
- Represent the company professionally with customers and site personnel
- Operate safely and in compliance with all company policies and regulations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience preferred
- Clean driver’s abstract
- Experience operating 5-ton trucks is considered a strong asset
- Physically capable of handling freight using pallet jacks and other material handling equipment. Freight may include skids weighing up to 2,500 lbs.
- Strong attention to detail and paperwork accuracy
- Professional attitude and strong customer service skills
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
- Smartphone required for work communication
- Valid BSO or CSO certification preferred (training may be provided for the right candidate)
- Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining access to oil sands and industrial worksites
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work includes exposure to outdoor industrial environments and varying weather conditions including rain, snow, ice, mud, dust, and noise. Required PPE includes steel-toe boots, hard hat, high-visibility vest, and safety glasses.
