Position Overview
We are hiring an experienced Hydrovac Operator to support underground utility and fiber optic construction projects. This role is critical to safe excavation, daylighting, and supporting HDD and civil crews.
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and capable of operating in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate hydrovac truck safely and efficiently for excavation and daylighting
- Perform utility exposure (daylighting) to support HDD drilling and civil operations
- Maintain propersoil control, slurry management, and site cleanliness
- Complete pre-trip inspections, daily maintenance, and minor troubleshooting
- Work closely with drillers, locators, and civil crews
- Ensure safe excavation practices around live utilities (gas, hydro, telecom)
- Maintaindaily logs, hazard assessments (FLHA), and job documentation
- Assist with general site setup, teardown, and support tasks
- Follow all WorkSafeBC / Alberta OHS regulations and company safety policies
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating a hydrovac truck (telecom or utility work preferred)
- Strong understanding of ground disturbance and safe digging practices
- Experience working around live underground utilities
- Mechanical aptitude for basic troubleshooting and maintenance
- Valid driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 required)
- Ground Disturbance Level II certification (required or willing to obtain)
- Confined Space, First Aid, and other safety tickets are assets
