The Service Support Worker (Casual) performs a variety of duties across Environmental Services, Laundry Services, and Food Services to support the daily operations of the facility.
Incumbents in this role are cross-trained and may be scheduled in any of the above service areas based on operational requirements. This position plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment while ensuring Residents receive high-quality meals and services.
The overarching goal of this position is to support a resident-centered, homelike environment by ensuring cleanliness, infection control, safe food handling, and timely service delivery, in accordance with standards set by the Department of Health for Long-Term Care Facilities.
All duties are to be performed in a spirit of teamwork across departments. As with all roles at The Meadows, the primary responsibility is the care and well-being of each Resident. Tasks and routines are secondary to ensuring Residents’ physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met.
This is a casual position with shifts assigned based on operational needs. Shifts may vary across Environmental, Laundry, and Food Services and will be scheduled by the appropriate Program Lead or Manager.

Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and disinfecting of resident rooms, common areas, and facility spaces

Maintain high-touch surfaces (e.g., door handles, handrails, bathrooms) in accordance with infection prevention standards

Empty waste, restock supplies, and maintain housekeeping closets

Clean and maintain equipment and report maintenance concerns

Respond to urgent cleaning needs and support facility operations as required

Collect, wash, dry, fold, and distribute linens across the facility

Maintain clean and organized laundry areas and equipment

Monitor linen quality and report issues

Label and manage Resident personal laundry as required

Ensure adherence to infection prevention and safe work practices

Prepare and serve meals and beverages in accordance with dietary requirements

Ensure safe food handling, re-thermalization, and temperature monitoring

Maintain cleanliness and organization of household kitchens and equipment

Restock food supplies and support central kitchen operations as required

Work collaboratively with Nursing and other team members to deliver meals

Assist with meal service, dining, and basic resident requests within scope

Support Resident engagement, activities, and “simple pleasures”

Respond to call bells within scope and notify Nursing when required

Foster a homelike, respectful, and engaging environment for Residents

Work collaboratively across departments to support daily operations

Follow all policies, procedures, and safety standards, including Occupational Health and Safety requirements

Mandatory Requirement:

Food Handler Certification is required for any employee performing Food Service duties, or a willingness (serious intent) to obtain certification in a timely manner
