Course code and title: EDEE 230-003. Elementary School Mathematics 1.
Description: Elementary Education: The first of two courses specially designed for pre-service elementary school teachers. Focused on key areas of what teachers need to know and be able to do to support students' development of mathematical understanding (focus on mathematics content, students' reasoning, and pedagogy). Provides insight and understanding of the Quebec elementary mathematics program.
This course is not team-taught or offered online.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):
Education:
1. Master’s degree (In exceptional circumstances, applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered).
2. Teaching degree or equivalent, and experience teaching in elementary schools.
Experience:
1. Expert knowledge of elementary mathematics pedagogy.
2. Knowledge of the Quebec Education Program (QEP).
3. Familiarity with the professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation.
4. Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers.
5. Experience teaching in the Quebec Elementary School System.
Other:
1. Commitment to working with a team of dedicated and engaged instructors.
2. Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meetings at least two weeks prior to the course start date.
This course is taught in French. A high level of proficiency in French and the ability to teach in French are required.
