We are seeking a Coordinator, Community Hall for Fort McKay Métis Nation!
The Opportunity:
Fort McKay Métis Nation is looking for Coordinator, Community Hall. The position is Monday –Thursday, 8:30am to 4:30am and Friday 8:30am to 2:00pm with occasional evenings and weekends.
The Role:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Coordinator, Community Hall is responsible for the day-to day operations, bookings, maintenance coordination and programming of the Community Hall. The incumbent plays a central role in keeping the hall a safe, welcoming and active hub for community members, Elders, youth, families and cultural activities.
The ideal candidate is a people’s person, understands Indigenous culture, values and can balance administrative duties with hands-on facility responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility Operations & Maintenance
- Manage the daily opening, closing, and security of the Community Hall
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure the hall is clean, safe, and well-maintained
- Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and janitorial services with contractors or staff
- Maintain inventory of equipment, furniture, supplies, and kitchen items
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, fire code, and OH&S regulations
- Act as primary contact for facility-related emergencies
Bookings & Event Coordination
- Manage the hall booking calendar and respond to rental inquiries from community members and external groups
- Prepare and administer rental agreements, collect fees, and issue receipts
- Ensure the hall is properly prepared before events and restored after
- Be available or arrange coverage for events outside regular hours, including evenings and weekends
Community & Cultural Programming
- Support and help coordinate Nation-led cultural events, feasts, Métis celebrations, and community gatherings
- Assist with programming for Elders, youth, and families using the hall
- Collaborate with the Fort McKay Métis Nation leadership, committees, and community
- volunteers
- Help promote upcoming events and programs to community members
- Respect and uphold Métis traditions, protocols, and community values in all activities
Administration & Finance
- Maintain accurate booking records, financial logs, and usage reports
- Prepare regular operational reports for Nation leadership
- Assist in tracking hall-related revenues and expenditures against budget
- Respond to inquiries from community members, Nation staff, and outside organizations

- Maintain and update hall rental policies, procedures, and fee schedules as directed
Health, Safety & Community Standards
- Enforce hall rules, rental agreements, and community standards consistently and respectfully
- Maintain first aid kits and ensure emergency procedures are posted and current
- Ensure all users of the hall comply with applicable bylaws and safety regulations
- Coordinate with Nation leadership and, where required, emergency services
Qualifications and Requirements
Education & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Recreation Management, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in facility coordination, event planning, or community programming
- Experience working with Indigenous or Métis organizations is a strong asset
- Knowledge of Fort McKay, the local Métis community, and regional context is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
- Strong organizational, scheduling, and time management abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — ability to work with Elders, youth, and diverse community members
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with booking software is an asset
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Customer service-oriented with a warm, community-minded approach
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance, safety, and custodial practices
Other Requirements
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check — including Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Working Conditions
- Primarily on-site at the Fort McKay Community Hall
- Some outdoor duties related to grounds, parking, and facility exterior
- Occasional lifting and moving of furniture and equipment (up to 50 lbs)
- Schedule will vary based on community events and booking demands
