Job Summary: Health Care Aides (Regulated)
Provides personal care and support services to Clients in a Comfort Keepers established Personal Care Program.
Qualifications:
· Must have completed a Health Care Aide College Diploma Program from a recognized Alberta Postsecondary Institution or registered with the Alberta CLHA regulatory body. if trained outside Alberta; or be an Internationally Trained Nurse working toward Canadian Certification again the employee must be registered with the CLHA.
· As Health Care Aides, some activities outside the standard scope of practice may be assigned during client care. These restricted activities will be clearly outlined in the care plan. You must receive one-on-one training from a Comfort Keepers Regulated Health Care Professional and have the form of the designated acts signed before doing any restricted activities. Examples include tube feeding and medication administration. All Health Care Aides are supervised by a regulated health professional by indirect, remote supervision; see the on-call document for more details.
· The employee’s responsible for ensuring they hold and maintain a current certification in First Aid with CPR, Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check. N95 Mask Fitting Test will be provided by the employer if it is not already completed.
· Employees must complete orientation online training within 2 weeks of hire, and annual online refresher training must be completed within 30 days of the employment anniversary date.
· A current, up-to-date photograph of the employee must be held on the employee's file.
· The employee must meet or exceed minimum qualifications for the following background checks: Criminal Background Investigation, Motor Vehicle Driving Record (where necessary), Professional and Personal Reference Checks, and submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
· Must have reliable transportation and fulfill assignments with reliability and punctuality. Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance when required to drive while on assignment.
· If employee is driving clients a copy of the employees current driving license and up to date vehicle insurance policy (showing vehicle can be used for work purposes) must be given to the office and any changes to policy or license must be updated with the Comfort Keepers office.
· Must satisfactorily complete Comfort Keepers training and orientation program. Must accept responsibility for learning and adhering to Comfort Keepers policies and procedures, be able to function in the home setting with minimal direct.

· Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and document services provided. Must be genuinely concerned about helping people and have high moral standards of honesty and integrity.
· Employees must adhere to respectful communication as outlined in the Workplace Violence, Harassment and Bullying Policies. Respectful behavior, non-intimidating behaviors includes the use and interactions via telephone, text message and E Mail.
Essential Functions:
● Performs duties as assigned in the Plan of Care.
● Assists the client with activities of daily living by providing any of the Comfort Keepers approved personal care activities, safe transfers, lifting, walking and turning including, but not limited to bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, oral hygiene, and/or ambulation. Filing of nails but not cutting or trimming the nails.
● Provides a clean, safe, and healthy environment for clients and family members. Provides light housekeeping tasks including laundering of client’s garments and linens and changing the bed.
● Assists in meeting nutritional needs by providing meal planning, meal preparation, grocery shopping, dishes, and kitchen clean-up.
● Assists the client with ambulation/transfers as specified in the Plan of Care.
● Assists clients with medications. May administer some medications to client’s subject to Comfort Keepers Medication Policy.
● Observes and reports any changes in the client’s mental, physical, or emotional condition or home situation to client care coordinator in a timely manner and/or call 911 if the situation is urgent, then report to client care coordinator.
● Establishes and maintains effective communication and a professional relationship with clients, family members, and co-workers.
● Participates in in-service and continuing education programs, staff meetings, and client conferences as requested by immediate supervisor.
● Completes required documentation of services delivered and submits to office in a timely manner according to policy. Uses equipment and supplies safely and properly.
● Maintains confidentiality regarding client information.
● Other reasonable related duties as assigned.
