Overview
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and people-focused Human Resources Manager to lead all human resources functions and oversee the HR team within our Child Care Facility. This leadership role is responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies, managing recruitment and talent acquisition, ensuring compliance with employment and child care regulations, and supporting the overall operational success of the organization.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in human resources, preferably within the child care, education, or healthcare sector, along with proven leadership experience. As a key member of the leadership team, the HR Manager will provide guidance to management, oversee employee relations, drive staff development initiatives, and ensure the organization attracts, retains, and develops highly qualified and compassionate professionals.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all Human Resources functions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices.
- Supervise, mentor, and support the HR team while fostering a collaborative, high-performing department.
- Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and initiatives that promote employee engagement, retention, and organizational growth.
- Oversee the full recruitment and talent acquisition process for RECEs (Registered Early Childhood Educators), ECAs (Early Childhood Assistants), supervisors, administrative staff, and leadership positions.
- Manage employee onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes, ensuring compliance with all organizational and legislative requirements.
- Provide leadership in employee relations by addressing workplace concerns, conducting investigations when required, resolving conflicts, and promoting a positive workplace culture.
- Partner with department leaders to support workforce planning, succession planning, and performance management.
- Oversee employee performance review processes, coaching initiatives, and professional development opportunities.
- Ensure employee records, certifications, licensing requirements, and HR documentation are maintained accurately and confidentially.
- Oversee payroll administration, employee benefits, attendance management, and HRIS processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor staffing levels and collaborate with leadership to ensure appropriate staffing coverage across all programs and locations.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal employment legislation, Ministry of Education licensing requirements, health and safety regulations, and all applicable child care standards.
- Develop HR metrics and reports to support strategic decision-making and organizational planning.
- Support organizational budgeting related to staffing, recruitment, compensation, and employee development.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on operational initiatives, organizational planning, and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain strong relationships with employees, leadership, families, and external stakeholders while representing the organization with professionalism and integrity.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture that reflects the organization's mission and values.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CHRP or CHRL designation is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including leadership or management responsibilities.
- Previous experience in child care, education, healthcare, or a regulated environment is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, human rights, occupational health and safety, and child care regulations.
- Demonstrated experience leading recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and organizational development initiatives.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop HR professionals and support management teams.
- Experience with payroll administration, employee benefits, and HR systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
