Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Housing Navigator to support individuals achieving housing stability and reconnecting with community resources. This role is vital in providing comprehensive assistance to clients, including alumni of our programs, ensuring they access and maintain safe, affordable housing. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by guiding clients through complex housing systems and fostering long-term stability.
Responsibilities
Housing Access & Landlord Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local landlords, property managers, and housing providers to expand housing opportunities for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
- Develop and implement landlord recruitment, engagement, and education strategies to ensure a stable supply of rental units.
- Serve as the primary liaison for landlords, addressing questions, concerns, and facilitating clear communication between Ryandale and housing providers.
- Collaborate with community agencies and service providers to identify housing solutions and coordinate tenant placement.
Resident Support, Alumni Services & Training
- Provide ongoing support to residents who have transitioned from Ryandale homes into independent living, fostering housing stability and long-term success.
- Deliver the RentSmart training program to Ryandale residents, equipping them with knowledge about tenant responsibilities, rental budgeting, and maintaining successful tenancies (training will be provided).
- Apply trauma-informed practices to support residents’ autonomy, well-being, and ability to navigate challenges related to tenancy and independent living.
- Serve as a trusted resource for residents, helping them integrate into their communities and access relevant supports.
- Monitor and follow up with alumni residents to address potential housing risks and provide guidance or referrals to community resources.
Community Collaboration & Program Development
- Work collaboratively with Ryandale staff to model the organization’s values of trust, hope, and empowerment in all interactions.
- Identify trends and barriers in housing access and retention, providing feedback to inform program improvements and strategic planning.
- Participate in community initiatives, workshops, and events to promote housing stability, tenant rights, and Ryandale’s programs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of landlord contacts, resident interactions, training sessions, and outreach activities to support reporting and program evaluation.
General Duties
- Work independently and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with team members.
- Uphold professional standards, confidentiality, and ethical practices in all aspects of the role.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to strengthen knowledge of housing, landlord relations, trauma-informed practices, and tenant education.
Job QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on relationship-building.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Knowledge of the housing sector, rental practices, and barriers to housing stability.
- Ability to coordinate events and deliver presentations
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Google, Microsoft Office Suite. and willingness to learn other programs as required.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Social Work, Community Services, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- One to three years of experience in mental health, addictions, or community-based housing services preferred.
- Experience working in housing, landlord outreach, or community services is an asset.
- Lived Experience is considered an asset
Additional Requirements
- Proof of acceptable vulnerable sector check (CPIC).
- Knowledge of WHMIS, fire safety, and health procedures preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
