Position Summary
The Helper is able to organize, control and prioritize area of responsibility and to carry out tasks to completion on an agreed timetable and to abide by all Vicwest health and safety rules. Reporting to the Lead Hand and Production Manager, this role will assist in the production and packaging of products for shipping, as well as loading, unloading, and moving inventory materials within the plant. They provide help to Machine Operators and Material Handlers where required.
Key Accountabilities
1. Production Support & Material Handling – Assist Machine Operators and Material Handlers with production and packaging activities, including building custom skids, loading/unloading materials, and moving inventory efficiently within the plant.
2. Health, Safety & Workplace Compliance – Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following all Vicwest health and safety rules, using hand and power tools safely, and adhering to proper material handling procedures.
3. Team Collaboration & Operational Flexibility – Work closely with co-workers and supervisors to complete tasks, support various production processes, and adapt to changing priorities and assignments as needed.
Major Responsibilities
- Assisting in Production processes
- Building of custom skids
- Loading and unloading materials
- Operating forklifts to move materials to and from designated areas
- Helping Machine Operators / Material Handlers when required
- Assist in inventorying materials within the plant
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment
- Use a variety of hand/power tools
- Collaborating with and assisting co-workers
- Strong ability to self-manage and work independently
- Performing other duties throughout the plant, as required
Qualifications
- Experience in a plant position an asset
- Experience in operating forklift an asset (counterbalance and 4-directional)
- Experience with Hand and Air tools
- Flexibility and adaptability to work on a wide variety of tasks
- Flexibility to work varied shifts
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs
