Jakes Construction Ltd. is looking for an experienced Field Survey Technician to join our construction team.
The Field Survey Technician is responsible for completing accurate construction layout, staking, site control, survey calculations, and as-built documentation for civil construction projects. This role works closely with survey, construction, and engineering teams to support safe, efficient, and accurate field operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform construction layout, staking, and site control using GNSS, robotic total stations, and related survey equipment.
- Establish, verify, and mark grades, elevations, alignments, utilities, roadways, hubs, and other construction elements.
- Complete topographic, as-built, quantity, volume, and earthworks surveys.
- Process and maintain survey data, calculations, records, and drawings using Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, and related software.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, design models, and survey information.
- Support machine control and GPS systems, including assisting field crews with GPS equipment.
- Maintain survey equipment and ensure it is properly cared for, calibrated, and functioning accurately.
- Coordinate survey information with project managers, superintendents, field crews, engineering personnel, and other construction staff.
- Support or mentor junior staff when required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of construction or legal survey experience.
- Experience in civil construction, heavy civil construction, civil works, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of GNSS, total stations, survey workflows, and construction layout practices.
- Experience with Topcon and Trimble equipment and related software, including Pocket 3D, Magnet Field, Trimble Siteworks, Trimble Business Center, or similar programs.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, and design models.
- Ability to complete volume calculations, earthworks calculations, quantity takeoffs, and as-built documentation.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Survey technical certificate or diploma preferred.
- AutoCAD experience, machine control experience, and drone/RPAS survey experience are considered assets.

Working Conditions
This is a field-based role that requires working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions, walking long distances while carrying survey gear, working around active equipment and crews, and working overtime when required.

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
